This has been shown to be incorrect. I'm on my phone so not gonna find the analysis, but it ended up being 47% (as I recall). Of course, I only learned this recently, so I was of the same thought, too.
Here ya go. And, technically what was initially said is actually correct. But the myth is that 52% of White women voted for Trump, which is what I was inferring the original statement to say. https://time.com/5422644/trump-white-women-2016/ The 52% statistic appears to be one of those myths. According to a later analysis that experts consider more reliable, a study published in August by the Pew Research Center, the percentage of white women who voted for Trump was actually 47%, compared to 45% for Clinton. That’s still a plurality, and still makes white women more Trump-positive than the overall electorate, which supported Clinton by a 48%-46% margin.
Related, and this came up in Longwell's Focus Group last week, was that no Dem has won an election with less than 60% of the youth vote. According to the Harvard poll (survey?) posted several pages ago, that percentage in support of Harris is now at 61%.
Okay, but I’m much more interested in the numbers for ALL undecided women, not just white women. White women are only about 60% of women in the electorate.
So Trump took the stage with the leading online purveyor of anti-semitism and neonazi groups? Did everyone join the protests about this?
I am waiting for thr Congressional hearings and people to post clips of Boebert and say but I wasn't familiar with her work.
https://www.dailykos.com/stories/20..._page&pm_source=top_news_slot_9&pm_medium=web In terms of age breakdowns, Gen X is an outlier. It’s very Trumpy. Anyway, Jos himself suggests it’s because that generation is as damaged by lead from gasoline. That’s why crime was a serious problem during Gen X’s crime committing heyday (ages 15-30, approximately.) Interesting theory.
This is way over the top and overwrought. Plus, lead exposure dates don't really line up. An old classic article on the effect of lead on crime rates: https://www.motherjones.com/environ...sure-gasoline-crime-increase-children-health/
yeah i don’t think this takes into account cultural factors. there was way more casual violence back in those days for example.
If "they" did, you would think "they" would be sending tornadoes directly at MTG's house, at Mar-a-lago, etc.
also the higher crime rates were not just in the US. we had them as well. I had to have this convo with my mother recently as she was going on about the dangerous crime at the mall so we looked at what was just accepted in the 80s when we roamed the streets and sports fields till past dark with no mobile phone and no one cared
One of the dangers of being too US centric is that many of these kinds of trends are international. I remember reading a great article from a UK Tory about how they should have declared victory on crime after the 90s because their policies had worked - but instead they keep going on about how crime has got worse when it hasn't. And of course Gen X was typically more liberal than our parents. Lots of social progress in the last couple of decades was achieved by us!
Of course this already happened on Covid but the behaviour of Trump. MTG and Maga generally on the hurricane response really should serve as yet another warning about the dangers of unchecked propaganda The idea 1A means you have to allow this seems bizarre to me
This nostalgia feeling is what Trump and MAGA are after. This is what I blame 24 hour news for. More outlets reporting on crime so it feels like it is happening more often.
I can safely guess those "they" are not the gentiles...... Where are the Bill Ackmans of the world when you need them?
About the lead in gasoline -> crime theory…I’m not gonna debate this. It’s a real effect. Kevin Drum has been writing about it for a decade or something. Off and on he’s posted about studies showing the link.
so trump is just openly colluding with Putin and now no one even cares. What possible business could an out of office US president have to call Vladimir Putin seven times?— EdwardLuce.bsky.social (@EdwardGLuce) October 8, 2024
remember it was pointed out Trump accidentally fessed to this several times including in the debate. and people explained it away. musk admitted it as well.
