A lot of very favorable polling: MC also finds Josh Stein leading 50% to 37% in NC's gov race. (This is the FOURTH poll today where he's up double-digits.)And they have Senate numbers, below: what you've come to expect, but I'll flag 2 under-polled races of MD (Dem +5) & OH (Dem +3)https://t.co/N1zHPjfDAT— Taniel (@Taniel) September 9, 2024
Second poll giving Alsobrooks a lead outside of the MOE. That is good news. I have to say she is not running a very good campaign though. @soccernutter, looking at the NV and AZ senate numbers, as well as the NC gov numbers. there is a more than even chance, Harris will get some reverse coattail in this states.
Today's outrage du jour from the Trump-Vance ticket is some odd, but incredibly racist, diatribes on Haitian immigrants eating pets (which isn't true - appears he deleted the post). Turns out, Vance has been fanning these anti-Haitian immigrant flames for a little while in Springfield, Ohio after tens of thousands of those folks came to the city and revitalized a lot of their industry. However, one Haitian immigrant hit a bus and killed a kid, so this meant every Haitian did it and Vance took up the mantle. So, I mean, the posts today about Haitians were over the top racist from the right, outright saying they should be banned, Chinese Exclusion Act style. When is it, then, we are allowed to call this racist?
Isn't Trump the same guy who refuses to hire Americans at Mar-a-Lago, instead choosing to bring in people from Haiti year after year, to work for next to nothing? Correct me if I am wrong.
And to be clear, the Haitians came there legally. Also, according to a Bulwark clip, "Haitians eating cats" is an old trope that has been resurrected.
Sometimes they can’t get a random enough sample to run a proper statistical model with any confidence. I’m sure it’s on the list, but taking more time?
Not necessarily from Haiti, but Mar-A-Lago hires seasonal workers on H-2B visas which are for seasonal non-agricultural jobs and last for six months. A typical use is for ski resorts to hire Australian or New Zealand nationals at American resorts in the Northern Hemisphere winter / Southern Hemisphere summer, and then they go back to Australia or New Zealand and work the ski resorts there in the Southern Hemisphere winter. But Mar-A-Lago hires them for waiter jobs and apparently replaces them every six months. For the period from October 2023 to March 2024, they hired 136 foreigners for kitchen and hotel jobs. Yes, that is not the case now. But the reports were, back in 2018, that MAL hired more workers from Haiti than they did of any other nationality using the H-2B visas. This came out after the "shithole countries" comment. Haiti, soon thereafter, was removed by the Trump WH from the list of countries eligible for those types of visas, if I recall correctly -- at least temporarily.
You are correct. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/01/12/tru...-haitians-mar-a-lago-may-hold-the-answer.html Thanks for bringing back that memory - there's so much bullshit surrounding Trump that the medium awful stuff like this gets forgotten in favor of the super awful stuff.
always fun when football twitter starts to feature concentration camp content It is incredibly unsettling watching the process of a political party getting itself psyched up to do pogroms. https://t.co/EiFDwoXSWa— Mike L. Goodman (@TheM_L_G) September 10, 2024
It's interesting America is giving us a definitive answer on Shirer's "Good Germans" question tldr; for a long time Shirer's was a definitive thesis on the rise of Nazi germany. He believed that there was something specific about the german mentality that enabled the 'good germans' to go along with hitler's fascism. that view became discredited And it's interesting that Trump can propose vast internment camps for 10m people, including citizens - nothing less than a vast ethnic cleansing, and it's barely a theme of the election
One of Trump’s superpowers is how often nobody takes him seriously. Rightly or wrongly, nobody takes that mass deportation threat seriously.
At some level, doesn't that mean that a decent percentage of Americans just don't take the presidency or the role of government, more generally, seriously? Obviously, none of this really makes any sense. You can't honestly just assume Trump can't or won't lock up all of his enemies or deport 10M people overnight, while at the same time think that Democrats - who've controlled the White House all but four years since January 2009 - will literally destroy the country if they're given another four years. Is Trump just jack-ass level entertainment for them? Is that all they really expect out of the president?
That's because Trump is incompetent. And since the primary skill his associates must have is licking his ass, they tend to be pretty incompetent as well.
In part, I think this fits. Lots of people think it’s The Politics Show. And obviously the media caters to those people above all. Hell, they ARE those people. Another factor is the literally vs. seriously bit.
This is how Trump even exists at all on the political stage. He managed to turn it into a reality TV show. The so-called serious media has been, and still is, helping him do this.
Wasn't thinking about Lake when I said that. Still, I'm not confident for Nevada because of how the Latinos are moving to Trump.
I think Trump has already reached his high water mark with respect to Latinos. Food and gas prices are down, the frightening deportation plans are percolating through the Latino community, and in Nevada the culinary union has endorsed Harris. Latinos in South Texas may still give Trump an unusual level of support, but barring an abysmal performance by Harris in the debate tonight I think Trump’s numbers won’t get any better with Latino voters in the tossup states.
@soccernutter It is likely that Josh Stein is going to closer the batshit crazy GOP candidate in NC....We should see some reverse coattails for Harris there...it has to happen. A new SurveyUSA poll in North Carolina finds Josh Stein (D) with a commanding lead over Mark Robinson (R) in the state’s gubernatorial race, 51% to 37% with 11% undecided.
Stuart Stevens agrees.... Harris is turning in the best debate performance we’ve seen in modern politics.— Stuart Stevens (@stuartpstevens) September 11, 2024
WOW...They know their guy is getting his clock cleaned.... What we know, Frank, is that this was an ambush. https://t.co/eWqXsguPI3— Megyn Kelly (@megynkelly) September 11, 2024
