According to the NYT (That is good news for Sherrod Brown too)

Two private polls conducted in Ohio recently by Republican pollsters — which Mr. Trump carried in 2020 with 53 percent of the vote — showed him receiving less than 50 percent of the vote against Ms. Harris in the state, according to a person with direct knowledge of the data.

Many younger Democratic candidates would’ve also done well. But as a woman, Kamala taps into an energy that brings things to a stratosphere level. At least that’s what I’m seeing with many of the women I know

It’s Getting Worse for J.D. Vance

    August 11, 2024

Aaron Blake: “Two weeks ago, I noted that the early signs for JD Vance as Donald Trump’s vice-presidential nominee were not encouraging. He was a historically unpopular running mate. The polls seemed to confirm what was already evident: He wasn’t a particularly voter-friendly pick, dating back to an underperforming 2022 Ohio Senate campaign in which every other Republican running for statewide office did better in their races.”

“The signs since then have only gotten worse.”

“A half-dozen polls have now tested views of Vance more than once in the last few weeks. In each of them, his already-underwhelming image ratings have deteriorated — sometimes significantly.”

“And crucially, his struggles appear particularly pronounced among educated voters and women. That would suggest that his derisive past comments about childless women are indeed proving to be liabilities.”

This. For all the strength that Harris has shown, it looks that is not just her and her charisma, but a perfect storm of factors that have catapulted her and Walz:

    1. JD Vance is a terrible pick for undecided/unreliable voters.

    2. Trump’s decline is notorious and he’s focused on grievances, making him very unappealing to most voters.

    3. Walz was a great great pick as VP, basically the anti-Vance, highlighting dems strengths and bringing a likable rust belt demeanor.

    4. Project 2025 is now front and center the visible GQP platform and the most the votwrs know about it, the less likely they are to vote republican.

    5. JFK disappearing as a legitimate alternative for some democrat leaning voters and becoming more of a drain for the republicans.

Once more - the media does cover these things. The problem is Trump's voters don't care.

    * and yes as I have argued many times, the media is structurally unfit to cope with fascism

This is silly. You can’t be what you wish. We can be only what we are. Olympic boxer Imane from Algeria is what? Male in female competition? Easy medal in my opinion with less honor. Other females were subordinated thanks to the sentence: you can be whatever you wish. Where are feminists here? Evidently male competes in female competition. Nobody alerts about beating the other female competitors.
Kamala Harris is an American of African and Indian origins. Only racists say about the race of other people.

The media covers the individual trees but ignores the forest. Articles about Trump making “false claims” about crowd size at Harris events miss the central issue. Donald Trump is a serial liar. This isn’t about crowd size claims. It’s about one candidate’s repeated, years-long display of pathological behavior. That’s the story. And one the largest media organizations don’t want to tell.

    THIS!
At what stage this psychopath & pathological liar should have been recognized and treated as such by the MSM and not as a normal candidate & human being?
It blew my mind reading some of the headlines from the MSM after this dumpster fire or a "press conference" last week. Those people went above and beyond trying to rationalize that torrent of lies and insanities instead of calling the whole thing for what it was.

I agree - remember i said in my post you replied to that the media is structurally incapable of handling a party that is hellbent on fascism, treating it as a valid electoral option instead of existential stakes.

But it is also simply true that Trump's insanity has been covered in huge detail for years. Trump/Russia was a massive story for years. His impeachment. The coup. J6 committee. His indictments. His trial. His conviction - all these things were covered exhaustively for months. Then Americans still want to vote for him. At some stage you have to conclude that half of the US electorate is just that gullible and stupid.

Also I think as liberals, we have to be careful not to fall fully in to the whole "why do the media never talk about ... " conspiratorial mindset

I guess you missed @Minnman point though. Yes they cover him but as he said, they keep missing the forest for the trees. At this point, Trump should be treated for who he is not as an extravagant but still "normal" candidate.
I do not think the media is "structurally incapable" to do so either. It may be a clear economical and transactional decision.

A real whirlwind of a post here.

But to clarify, Imane Khelif is a woman, was born a woman, raised as a woman, competes as a woman. You think Algeria, where being trans is illegal and where you can't change your gender on any official identification, is somehow sending trans people to represent them at the Olympics?
