Okay, but he’ll be 82 and a two-time loser. His aging base isn’t getting any bigger, either. More to the point, other Republicans (again) refused to take him on this time. Refused to attack him. That scale will tip if he loses again. Trump is a disaster for the GOP in terms of its long term prospects. Also, he’s likely to be imprisoned if he loses.
They will protest as they pray the DoJ does their job this time, which it will when Garland steps down for Sally Yates.
The nation's oldest and largest Latino civil rights organization, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), will do something it has not done since its founding in 1929 — it will endorse a presidential candidate, CBS News has learned. The organization's political arm, the LULAC Adelante PAC, will endorse Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/lulac-nations-oldest-largest-latino-civil-rights-organization-endorse-kamala-harris/
I guess this is the right thread for this, as it is about how Kamala got the nomination. My wife and I have started attending a monthly happy hour called Drinking Liberally. From a metropolitan area of over half a million people, about 15 people seems typical. I guess that's everyone, lol. Last night one of the group was the clerk of the state Democratic party and also a delegate to the convention, and she described the nominating process. Here's how I remember it (I was drinking moderately!). The convention has 4,700 delegates, of which 54 are from Louisiana. Biden won the Louisiana primary in a landslide (in case you missed it). The day after Biden withdrew from the race, they had some sort of conference call and 52/54 supported Harris (the other 2 wanted an open convention). The Louisiana delegation was among the first to come out and say they supported Harris, probably because it is such a small number of people. Then came the virtual roll call, necessitated by the possibility that the nominee would not be on the Ohio ballot due to an arbitrary deadline. The DNC e-mailed each delegate a nominating form, which was a PDF attachment. They had to fill out the form electronically and e-mail it back. Some of the delegates from rural areas are not computer literate and had to be led through the process. Most delegates nominated Harris, with a couple filling out the form incorrectly and nominating themselves. This process was duplicated in the other states, I assume. For the actual roll call, then, every delegate got a ballot with two choices: Harris or "present." No other choices because nobody else was nominated. Of the 4,700 votes, Harris got over 4,500, with some of the "present" vote probably due to errors of the type described above. So 99% of the delegates, which I do not recall seeing in the press coverage (maybe they are saving that "drama" for the convention, which won't really have much going on other than speeches). I think it's fair to say this was a nomination by acclamation - nobody else stepped forward and said "pick me!" and so nobody else got votes. I found it interesting to learn what the actual process was. Dems in array!
Yup. Assuming he loses this year, what will his support look like in 2028? He's got the cult, but beyond that?
If he loses again and lives to 2028.. meh let him be the face of the GOP.. let the GOP in-fight about the diaper don
If the MI GOP is anything to go by, I don't think they have long term prospects in general. Their GOP candidates lost resoundingly and so far they're in serious debt. Even in GOP heavy Ottawa County, the hard right group Ottawa Impact lost their majority on the county commissioner board because people are getting sick of their crap. Outside of that, the GOP really hasn't had any ideas since 1980 except for tax cuts, tax cuts, culture wars, tax cuts, and tax cuts. And of course, they're weird. JD Vance can't answer a softball question from a local journalist and he's mean about it. They don't have a normal sounding person that can communicate, then there's Dobbs, which every Dem will tie around a Republican and watch them squirm. Along with Project 2025, which they're trying to distance themselves from.
That should be the repeated by all elected democrats and others with a platform.... Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY) suggested Donald Trump may be “not all there anymore” after he held a lengthy and rambling press conference, The Hillreports. Said Meeks: “This guy, he was incoherent, nonsensical. He was an individual who sounded like he had a low IQ.” He added that he is “getting really nervous” listening to Trump speak because “he can’t seem to finish a sentence” and said he thinks something is “wrong with him.”
Fyck me! Could it really people didn't want to vote for Grandpa Joe. Like literally a new younger face is all they need!?!. The move to Harris and the ripple effect on both parties and their supporters is a thing to behold.
The way I see it, US election is more of a popularity contest. Voters prefer style over substance. And now, it's obvious who has the better style.
I think it is as much the positive attitude and message that Team Harris are presenting as opposed to the drabness of Biden.
Biden was insisting on running a campaign of dignity and decorum.. he wanted America to vote for him for the things he accomplished for the nation…. In this day and age that is seemingly the least important things for the networks that only care for their ratings… If Harris can find the right balance between her energy, her policies, and “dunking” on the lunacy of the other side then the medias coverage will reflect it. Joe Biden was literally sinking because he came off as dull and tired one single debate, it dominated the news and defined Bidens campaign afterwards. Trump comes off as an unhinged, barely coherent moron when hes on the microphone but that fact never defines his campaign or the media discussion, why is that? Because the media believes that the Trump circus will guarantee viewers and give greater importance to their pundits… Biden discussing infrastructure doesnt appeal to pundits as much as the idiocy Trump says. The press is complicit for much of the deterioration of the countrys political discourse as much as MAGAts
FEC (Federal Election Commission) wont take steps to regulate deepfakes related to the election. Basically the Republican in charge decided to “wait for deceptive fraud to occur and study its consequences before acting to prevent the fraud." Elon Musk must be happy and donating https://www.commondreams.org/news/deepfakes-2668931880
