well 100 days or so from election time we should start seeing the MAGAt acolytes activating plans to disrupt the election or invalidate votes. Rules to reject or disqualify votes without burs den of proof? sure, nothing fishy there https://www.rollingstone.com/politi...a-takeover-georgia-election-board-1235073860/ On the other side Trumps “Pal” Musk is running a “help you register to vote” scam to farm data and or deceive potential voters… fun season is starting up https://qz.com/elon-musk-donald-trump-super-pac-election-voter-fraud-1851612153
The dead bear prank sounds like something some rich asshole frat boy would do. But 10years ago, RFK Jr was <checks notes> 60! That’s just an asshole.

The more in-depth one goes on the Kennedys, the more one isn't surprised at this sort of thing. It's something that's on brand for the Kennedys. If it's not stupid things, it's them being awful. RFK Sr got his start with McCarthy union busting, Joe Sr and junior were rather fond of the Nazis (Some of the stuff Joe Jr said praising the Nazis, yikes) for instance. Then there's the stupid shit they do. Josh Barro has a fantastic article (See below) about why he was never a big fan of the Kennedys. And while I don't agree with Barro on much, I do agree with his view of the Kennedys. One member of the family died playing ski football, which is exactly what it sounds like. In short, ******** the Kennedys. Or to quote The Irishman, "I don't care that they're Catholic, I don't care that they're Irish. If there's one person you can't trust, it's millionaire's kids." https://www.joshbarro.com/p/the-kennedys-were-always-bad
We should know within the next 24 hours or so who will be the VP pick. This is going to be very important. Most media thinks it will be Shapiro but imo I think Walz would be a better pick. Shapiro could help Kamala win PA but Walz would help her win both Wisconsin/Michigan and lock up Minnesota. Kelly is solid but comes off boring and I don’t think he will help Kamala take AZ. Shapiro has some baggage that’s the issue. Anti Muslim rhetoric will hurt Kamala taking Michigan if the Muslims decide to stay home. WI/PA/MI/GA were such small margin wins for Biden that I am not sure that Kamala builds on that.
Downsides of Walz ... looks old, and is quite progressive Upsides - the internet loves him, would be a great governing partner At the end of the day, I think she will go with Shapiro as she must win PA It'll probably come down to who she trusts and connected with more - they are both strong picks
You are selling Walz short here. He is a very successful governor, he comes from a rural background and has military service in his resume. More importantly, he is very good on the stump ad in front of mikes and cameras. He can be a great asset in the Russ belt. I have always been a Shapiro fan however, he may bring unnecessary distractions and baggage to the ticket.
I am a huge Walz fan! I think either will be great. It's obviously a huge advantage if Shapiro can deliver PA, but i agree the progressive wing may freak out. But on the other hand, if they are not voting for Kamala over this, were they ever?
I understand that you have to win in order to govern. But I’d like to think that actual governance is part of the equation when it comes to Harris picking a running mate. I understand that Shapiro is extremely popular in Pennsylvania and is a rising star in the party. I understand his reputation for getting things done (albeit, in a pretty short career as governor). What strikes me, though, is that discussion about his value as a running mate have tended to begin and end with PA’s key role in the electoral college. That’s legit, and may prove highly relevant to getting elected. But what does he bring to the ticket other than (maybe) PA? If he were governor of another state, would he be seen as serious a candidate?
I think this election is about to become about the economy. And if that is the case, then the incumbent party is in trouble. Am hoping I am wrong, though.
I think Trump might need a new cognitive motherboard installed The ability to string words together in a meaningful way is now a fraction of Chat GPT level Donald Trump, seeking William Faulkner's endorsement. https://t.co/VTx6pp6eOT pic.twitter.com/PwwLnsFc9Y— Bill Grueskin (@BGrueskin) August 4, 2024
Conspiracy theorists want you believe that Kennedy was shot because he wanted the US out of Vietnam when he is a lot to blame that the US was involved in Vietnam.
Shapiro wrote something stupid when he was 20. The only people who think they've never done something similar are still 20. Placed in a scale, saying something stupid as a 20 year old vs. getting a major interstate highway re-opened in a couple of weeks? The latter says something about his ability to get things done. The former says he used to be 20 years old. Though he's not my first choice.
the idea that the VP will set US policy on israel is silly anyway so progressives should just sack up.
It's Palestine. They'd be doing this if it's Walz or anyone else. Plus, Palestine don't mean a thing to most Americans. And I'll reiterate, for all the hype uncommitted in Michigan got, it fizzled out the way a Barca product post Messi does.
So for the likes of the good @Dr. Wankler who have followed the "intellectual' move of the GOP into unbridled fascism, Offline had a great interview with researcher Laura K. Field on the new right and post liberalism. tldr; the reaganites were 'fusion' conservatives embodying social conservatism, economic liberalism and internationalism. The new right reject the entire liberal world order. While this stuff has always lurked, The "Flight 93 Election" article is seen as a key moment in this movement. Charlie Sykes is one of the few that was documenting this stuff but he's basically retired now. In any event, if you want to go beyond the "It was all a lie" analysis of Stuart Stevens and into the intellectual background of this nascent fascist movement, this is a great intro. https://crooked.com/podcast/jd-vance-project-2025-and-how-the-right-got-weird/
I’ll check it out. She had a series of articles on the descent of The Claremont Institute into cuckoo-land (they’re the originators of the “Flight 93 Election” tactic). It might not have been as precipitous as Rod Dreher’s plunge, but it’s close.
The number of American politicians whose views on Israel are acceptable to 50% or more of self-described progressives can probably be counted on one hand.
Kamala Harris vice president choice narrows to Walz, Shapiro, sources say | Reuters Walz or Shapiro it seems. No Sen. Astronaut
Oh snap! No wonder it resonated so hard - she actually did do an interview with Sykes on Claremont... https://www.thebulwark.com/p/laura-k-field-what-the-hell-happened When I look back at the date of this - I can remember exactly where i was jogging when my jaw was hitting the floor. Summer of '21
