A long and very favorable article about Joe Cannon's try out is on the Lens web site. It starts with "If some observers remember that the Californian had already had some training sessions at Metz a year ago, few observers know more than that about (Cannon who is) one of the best american keepers". It continues extensively about San Jose's record the past couple of seasons, how favorably Joe is impressed by French football - more enthousiasm from the fans, he says - and how he thinks the "rythym" of the game (probably better translated as speed) is comparable between MLS and France but that "players are better at finishing" (in France), how much better he got over the course of the past year and of course that he is a nice guy.

All in all reading between the lines one might think that it is a prep story for him to sign. From what I have been able to find out from the web Lens had a keeper with ten years of experience tearfully quit the club at the end of December for reasons that I haven't found. The keeper for their last league game was a 20 year old Frenchman with five League 1 games of total experience.
