The following is from "World Lingo.com". It's very crude and I think that the word "goal" should be substituted for "aim" here. I made one correction. When it was asked to translate "New York Metro Stars", it translated it "New York underground railway Stars"! Anyway, here it is:

FEYENOORD TEST AMERICAN WOMAN AIM MAN Feyenoord use the drive camp on Gran Canaria among others in order test the quality of Joe Cannon to. The American woman connects himself aim man of the San José Earthquakes as from tomorrow at the selection of Bert van Marwijk. After the drive week in Spain Cannon with the selection flies back to Rotterdam, where eventually a decision will be taken concerning a possible future of the aim man at Feyenoord.

Cannon was notable already rather in Europe. French woman FC Metz had him ever on training period. To a contract it did not come. Cannon, those dreams of a career in Europe, hopes now at Feyenoord in the taste fall. He is keeper who American with that it the Second comes for a test to the tank. Rather timing Howard, the aim man the New York Metro Stars passed through, already a similar test in the tank. Howard is returned meanwhile without contract to New York.

Looks like they are interested. I hope this is the start of something good here. Some source (I think it was "Soccer Digest") called Cannon the most underrated goalkeeper in MLS. I'd like to see him develop into a star in the Eredivisie.

The're no copyright problems with changing a translation, you can correct syntax errors to make it sound better.

    Good for Joe.

Go, see Europe. Make some cash.

What more can a person ask for.

Why would Cannon get on when Howard couldn't? I don't see this one happening.

Me neither, but apparently some agent has the ability to get Yanks into Feyenoord.

    Which agent is it?

Cannon is a free agent and would require no transfer fee from Feyenoord while Howard is under contract - for a couple more years, I think - and would require a transfer fee and, given that MLS sees him as a young and up-and-coming star, that trasnfer fee would probably be in the 7-figure range.

If you're Feyenoord, why pay a million-plus when you could get a keeper almost as good (some would argue just as good) for nothing?

Yep, I thought he was out of contract. In fact I thought the story was he was going to re-sign a deal after the draft.

Can't find the link, but I'm pretty sure of it. Or maybe he was just going to sign an extension. No, I'm sure he was out of contract.

Lots of injuries in goal. They had an 18 year old in nets in one of their games, also had injuries to the 35 year old 3rd keeper.

At one point the top 4 keepers were injured.

Tim Howart was probably not chosen, because of high demandings, like financial. Joe Cannon also seems to be happy with the interest. He was in interest with Wolfsburg, Kaiserslautern, Manch utd_and FC Metz. The people around him said, Feyenoord would be the ideal club. After this he broke off a trainingcamp with the national team. He never heard of van Hooijdonk and Bosvelt (?), before arrival. He also said: Did Feyenoord win the UEFA cup? Then_it must be a very strong team. His enthousiasm only gets bigger of this. He said he dont follow european_football, on purpose, so that he wont look up to the players with name. SO he cant get nervous when such a player arrives in front of him. _( I hope this indeed is an advance, but i think some knowledge of players can be helpful too).

    More from the recent article

    Courtesy of worldlingo.com:

Cannon arrived on Gran Canaria (Feeynoord winter break training site) on Saturday afternoon from Tampa via Miami and Madrid. Kaiserslauten and Wolfsberg also had some interest in him.

"The invitation arises for me at a perfect moment. I had a good season behind me at San Jose Earthquakes. My contract is at an end, and I think it's time to look to Europe. Your level is much higher than ours. You can't compare our level to yours" says Cannon. He already has experience in Europe, training at Metz and in England with Huddersfield Town and Notts County (after his misadventure with Man. Utd.).

I think it was two years ago, Joe had a training stint arranged with ManU. Upon his arrival, the tabloids got ahold of it and spun it as him being on trial as a replacement for Barthez. To quash the rumors, he suddenly became persona non grata in Manchester, so his agent quickly arranged training stints at those lower division clubs. There was some first person article about it on mlsnet at the time.

And I may have mistranslated what Joe said above in an effort to make it coherent. What Joe actually said was:
"my contract is last and I have it feeling which I it is be made Europe to the overstap to to. Thus the level at you is much higher then at us. That cannot compare you with each other"

    Perfectly clear, right?
