Just curious to see what everyone thought of Steve's play-by-play. I thought he did a good job. I think he would be more suitable for the radio. But a good job nevertheless.

For a sideline guy and a sports reporter he didn't do bad play by play.

Steve likes to run back to familiar lines. He must've said "Steve and Shep here with you" a million times last night, as well as "Mets doubleheader tomorrow etc." I used to do that kind of thing when I was starting out on college radio.

    Failing that, he did alright.

I don't really listen to soccer commentary much while watching games. Turn off the sound most of the time, and listen to music while watching the game.

But Tolleson is a fan of the game he is on a soccer e-mail list I am on. I would like to see him back. Messing is starting to grow on me now.

I only actually miss one guy that some people didn't like, but I thought he was great Seamus Malin. He used beautiful language to discribe our beautiful game I like that, even though I never speak that way myself. I am also pretty sure he has a coaching license from some of the comments he made during matches.

Remember Brazil v Dutch game in 1994 WC? His commentary on Romerios half volley goal. He used the words "Sheer ellegance" to describe his strike of the ball.

That was the perfect words to describe that strike on that ball it was beautiful to watch.

I remember thinking he was doing too much commentary instead oif play-byplay. I think that's why someone thought he would be better on radio. Ons everal occasions he ignored action and keept talking about something that had happened a mintue before. Also, I thought it was the poorest produced and directed game I've seen. The camera missed a lot of action, especially in the first half. Things were so disjointed a times, I wonder if it was a new crew.

While he hasn't sounded condescending or forced since he's been covering the Metros, his play-by-play reeks of someone who's only started watching full 90 minute games very recently.
