Joel Waterman from Cavalry will become the 1st CPL player sold to an MLS club, Montreal Impact. Actually thought this was hilarious...

USL teams tend to only sign one year contracts... well, 9 month contracts.

They should change their practices. CPL are mostly on 1+1. And yes I still find unilateral options on contract not great practice in my opinion.

Waterman sold for $100k, Piette for €60k and Kaye for $50k. Wondering how much Borges is worth

MLS teams have sold draft pick spots for (going by memory) $100 k in allocation money. A known player would presumably be worth more.

Of course, if Piette was worth $60 000 euros, I don't see Borges being at his level.

They should, but there really isn't much incentive for them to do so.

    Unconfirmed...
But some echoes are claiming it's Rastar Group aka RCD Espanyol

Soon to be Segunda Divisíon, Espanyol? Yowza.. Granted, they've been in La Liga for virtually their entire life and seem to be on solid financial standings. At least it isn't worse? It could have been Rayo like what happened with NASL. ;)

Why on earth would a European team want to own a North American lower league club? I don't understand what possible business case there is to do it.

CPL WILL have an 8th team for 2020 according to this!
And the club who's backing the bid is not Espanyol but bigger than them...

With guys like David and Davies, there's more eyes on Canada. The Belgium league is watching CPL closely for their next "David". The entry cost being very low but with a potential high return in the long term makes it attractive for foreign investors and bigger clubs.

Very happy to see a CPL team in Ottawa.

Quite surprised it is for 2020.

    Confirmed by the agency
    Details

    • to scout young internationals (age 23 and under) from around the world. The goal is to create a database of internationals, with the aim of placing players from it with CPL clubs.
    • The database of internationals will be fluid over the course of 2020, as new players will be added and signed to pre-contracts before being made available to all CPL clubs simultaneously.
    • Teams will have to compete with one another over players, and sign them on a first come first serve basis.
