World Soccer 500 (ie The 500 most important players) published in World Soccer monthly magazine September 2020 issue. Not ranked but listed in alphabetical order. (They do this list each year) Number of Canadians 3 Jonathan David Gent & Canada 'Lightning quick and smart, he scored 23 goals for Gent last season, and already has 11 from just 12 international caps. He is on the radar of Europe's elite clubs.' Alphonso Davies Bayern Munich & Canada 'In no time at all, the 19-year-old has gone from promising winger to supercharged, supersonic left-back. Probably the world's most exciting full-back.' Christine Sinclair Portland Thorns & Canada 'With 186 goals in 296 games, the 37-year-old is the top-scoring and most-capped international footballer of all time – what else is there to say?' (I noticed only 8 women on their list) WS 500 by club: 1. Bayern Munich with 14 2. tie Liverpool and Manchester City with 12 each WS 500 by league: 1. England (Prem) with 69 2. Germany (Bund) with 65 WS 500 by country: 1. France with 49 2. Spain with 41 (USA and Mexico 13 each, Canada with 3, Costa Rica and Honduras with 1 each make up Concacaf)
The top seeds will host the second and third seeds and go to the fourth and fifth seeds. The draw will be on Wednesday.
The dates have been announced. Your schedule is: Thursday October 8: host Grenada/Barbaos/Guyana/Saint Vincent and the Grenadines/Bermuda/Belize Sunday October 11: at Saint Lucia/Puerto Rico/Cuba/Montserrat/Dominica/Cayman Islands Saturday November 14: at Bahamas/Aruba/Turks and Caicos Islands/U.S. Virgin Islands/British Virgin Islands/Anguilla Tuesday November 17: host Antigua and Barbuda/Guatemala/Saint Kitts and Nevis/Suriname/Nicaragua/Dominican Republic Some of those teams may not play their home games at home. Should eastern Canada and western Canada each get a game? Do the locations of the opponents matter in terms of travel with only two days off in between games? The 1 seed in both windows has their second game against a team with one more day of rest. The draw is tomorrow.
October 8, host Bermuda October 11, visit Cayman Islands November 14, visit Aruba November 17, host Suriname I'm not sure our host cities make that much difference in terms of travel. I'd suggest Toronto in October and Vancouver in November if we want larger crowds or else some combination of Edmonton and Winnipeg if we want a weather advantage.
Here are each opponent's FIFA Ranking, FIFA Ranking in Concacaf, and FIFA Ranking in Concacaf range for that pot: Bermuda: 168, 22, 18-23 Cayman Islands: 193, 29, 24-29 Aruba: 200, 31, 30-35 Suriname: 141, 15, 12-17 Group E, which has your Round 2 opponent, has Haiti, Nicaragua, Belize, Saint Lucia, and Turks and Caicos Islands. Wikipedia says the groups with the worse top team, D through F, get the advantage of hosting the second leg. I don't know why Concacaf did that or if Wikipedia is wrong. If your second leg is at Haiti, where would you want to host them a few days earlier? If you want to predict every WCQ in Concacaf, go to https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/c...up-2022-prediction-contest-round-1-r.2110827/ All three teams from Round 2 will play their first Octagonal game at home. If you reach it, your schedule is: 1. Honduras (H) 2. USA (A) 3. Group A or F (H) 4. Mexico (A) 5. Jamaica (A) 6. Group C or D (H) 7. Costa Rica (H) 8. Mexico (H) 9. Honduras (A) 10. USA (H) 11. Group A or F (A) 12. Costa Rica (A) 13. Jamaica (H) 14. Group C or D (A) You must win your first game because then you have three of four away including at USA and Mexico. The first four games are in one Window, so you'll be at USA and Mexico a week apart. You have three consecutive home games that include Costa Rica and Mexico in the same window. The fifth window has an away game where you've struggled and hosting USA, and you end with three of four away. If you're in contention with two games left, hosting Jamaica and going to a Group C or D team all of which are worse than you in the FIFA Rankings are easy opponents. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_–_CONCACAF_Third_Round#Matches has the Octagonal schedule.
The game against Aruba will surely be played in Curaçao, because the Guillermo Próspero Trinidad stadium in Oranjestad does not meet FIFA's requirements

Canada will face Cayman Islands and Aruba for the first time.
https://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/concacaf-aspirants-react-as-path-to-qatar-2022-laid-out says: "“There is a group of players that have been part of the battle these past two years, they’ve been developing together on and off the pitch and they will be the narrators of what could be an amazing story for soccer in this country. It is important that when competing in Concacaf, at a stage where every game has so much at stake, that we are always at our strongest. We know this a long campaign consisting of 20 matches to reach Qatar 2022 and there are various stages in this campaign for which we have to plan.” John Herdman, Canada coach"
We will certainly need to be at our strongest because, especially in the first two rounds, there is little to no room for errors. I'm happy to see the core of our team that has been building up for the past two years or so take this on. That said, Herdman is also going to have the task of continuing to integrate rising new talent. That's a new "problem" for the CNT but it's quite possible that some of the players who will start if we make 2022 aren't yet top of mind to coaches and fans. Two years ago, for example, Jonathan David was still mostly unknown.
Canada have a tough group for wcq with Bermuda and Suriname, Bermuda are no pushovers they've beaten Panama in nations league and nearly beat Mexico if not for some last minute heroics. Suriname are straight dogs they fight hard and they will be getting new players from the Eredivisie, Turkish league, etc.
I never want to underestimate an opponent or show them disrespect. That said, if we can't win in this group we shouldn't be in the World Cup anyway. My biggest concern in qualifying is actually round two because it is a simple home and away. One quirky, bad game could sink us.
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...ualifiers-will-finish-qatar-2022-greg-selzter predicts you will reach the Octagonal and finish fourth. Greg Seltzer predicts Mexico-USA-Jamaica-Canada-Costa Rica-Curacao-Trinidad and Tobago-Honduras. You missed the last eight, and Jamaica missed the last five, so if both of you qualify it will be two teams who haven't qualified in the 2000s.
Probably not surprising, but no games for the team until next year: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...ticipate-during-november-international-window

Corbeanu will drop out if he`s needed by Wolves Canada approach has been to encourage Akinola to attend the USA camp and consider all his options. They won't rush him and he doesn't really need to decide until March or June. He has wanted to experience a Canadian camp and will now (belatedly) get that opportunity. Definitely slanting young and North American-based for this camp, which is a good idea. Great to see Akinola on the list. I hope he comes and doesn't look back.
Hello, Have a listen to the Soccer Snobs podcast, they've had some amazing men's national team guests from Gerry Gray and Alex Bunbury back in the day to Julian De Guzman. They've also had Charmaine Hooper on and recently Janine Beckie. Check it out it's an awesome show with some great humour. www.soccersnobs.ca/listen or it can be found on any podcast platform like Spotify, Apple, Google, Podcast Addict, etc.
Thank you for this informative post. Critical to get those newcomers into camp. Another GK option, Buchanan who has been really good , Akinola... Dear god it would be nice if Halbouni and Sturing can step up at CB.
I wonder if Canada will play their qualifiers for Qatar 2022 in a Bubble? You know like how NBA had their playoffs and Finals in a Bubble and how MLS had their tournament in a Bubble...I wonder if FIFA is doing the same thing for WC qualifiers? Sorry it has been a very long time since I've been here well been away grieving so I haven't really been paying attention to soccer all that much
Jonathan Tannenwald @thegoalkeeper 14m A source with knowledge of the situation tells The Inquirer that Cayman Islands vs. Canada - being played at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. - is tentatively rescheduled for tomorrow (Monday) at 6 p.m. ET.
