I had just bought my first house in 1986 and it had a huge satellite dish in the back yard. I watched the entire World Cup in English off a mix of the CBC and I think an English network. . This was great considering no English TV in the US and the best thing, no commercials !

What do you mean no English TV in the US? I was in New York in 86 and watched all three Canada games in English.

I just googled 1986 and yep, NBC with commercials apparently (?)
Kind of odd considering the USA wasn't in, but I guess they thought they could get some viewers interested in the worlds biggest sport and tournament.
I guess I preferred all the games live and no commercials on the dish.
In LA, would have had no problem getting the games in Spanish, much like today still watching a lot of stuff on the several Spanish outlets.
I guess also being part Canadian, I was partial to the CBC

Now that I think about, I may have watched some of the games on CBC as well. The cable system in Central New York used to carry the CBC in the mid-80s.

Regardless, we have come along way with soccer coverage on TV with almost everything for both mens and women, even is the TV coverage is cut up into so many channels and now streaming.....
