Sold out crowd in Edmonton (60000+) Both have full squads I believe, for the injured Canadian players, Moscato is fine and Sinclair and Lang are playing but 80% healthy ... anthems playing, more to come soon!
If the Canadian keeper has to head the ball it will become impaled on one of the spikes! It looks intimidating, or silly, depending on your point of view.
BTW 60,000+ !!!! That's awesome, great work Edmonton (and Vancouver and Victoria) This reminds me of the 1999 WC Finals in LA between USA and China. Should be a great game.
The one real difference is that the US would NEVER draw 60K+ for a U19 game. We are too jaded to even come close. I doubt that it would be 15K in even NY or LA. Good job Canada.
Min 10- U.S. PLayer Buehler twists knee... no one is on for her yet... alot of back and forth play right now.. no good chances for either
So far Canada has lookd more dangerous but the Us is getting chances. It looks like Buhler(sp) #2 for the US just poped her ACL but looks can be deceiving. I hope it is not as bad as it looks.
Helwig? Velwig... so sorry peoples... someone came on for Buehler .... O'Reilly (US) had a good chance when Chapman went down but Rustad (Can) came back quick to stop much of an attack min 15 Timko (Can) had intercepted the ball... Lang slips U.S. goes the other way and gets a corner, and another corner Mcleod saves it Canadian wristband of the day (that the players wear each game has a different word) - Triumph .. other ones for games have been heart, courage
Right now neither team is playiong the style that I think is most likely to break the other's defense. The US is trying to do a lot 1v1 and Canada is trying to go straight to goal without waiting for support. The changes that I believe will work forthe US is to build more slowly and make the Canada defense react and use quick small combos around the top of the box. For Canada they need to get the ball to a forward and she needs to hold the ball and then break woth the second wave using either a turn or a pass.
min 18 grass is slipperry.. a us player punts it in the air to other DF, DF slips and Sinclair takes advantage and takes a good shot, just misses the far post
There have been a LOT of slips, one almost got a goal for Canada. Has this been true throughout the tournament on this field? Is the field unusually hard? Is the surface loose? Or is there another reason> It looked like a slip also contributed to the injury earlier. Ballwig is now down but looks like she might be able to continue. THe fiels did NOT contribute to this one.
this hasnt been that true for the tourney... there was a few slips in other games... but not bad.. it rained all of last night in Edmonton I hear. Min 22 Thorlakson gets a pass and is a bit offside
min 26 Lang runs up middle and with lots of space.. but weak shot up the middle so far 59-41 % possesion for US
If that is the case then a simple change to longer studs at the half should mak a difference. The thing that made me think it was a hard field was that I have not seen any turf comming up like you often do on a soft/wet one.
min 27 Us lobs cross into the box, Mcleod punches it away .... Wilson (US) pushes it into O'Reilly, with a shot but blocked by DF Rustad
Given the style that Canada nad the US plays this is the same as saying the game is even. Canada rarely makes a pass that is not either a clear or trying for attack while the US will make passes just take a little longer to get to attack. In other words the US often posseses with no attack.
