Canada’s Men’s U-20 Team is off to Europe for a series of high profile games against top quality opposition as they continue to prepare for January’s 2015 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship.

Head Coach Rob Gale has chosen 18 players for three matches against England, Russia, and USA. The first game takes place in Bournemouth, ENG, while the other two will take place in Marbella, ESP.

“First and foremost, a game against England in England is, from my point of view, as big a game as it gets,” said Gale. “It’s great for the lads. And then we get to travel into Spain to play Russia and the United States who are the benchmark in CONCACAF along with Mexico.”

The team arrives on Sunday 9 November before getting into training the next two days. They’ll take on England at Dean Court in Bournemouth on Wednesday 12 November before heading to Spain the following day. The games against Russia and USA take place on 15 November and 18 November, respectively.

With the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship fast approaching, Gale says there still is a lot of competition for his squad and that he’s pleased with the depth at his disposal. This is by no means a final squad but a glimpse of the potential in the Canadian system.

“We have good competition for places,” said Gale. “By no means is anyone guaranteed to make the starting XI with the competition we have so this camp is going to be an excellent test for the players with the opposition but also a chance for them to show that they can compete and take those spots going into January.”

Canada will open the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship in Montego Bay, JAM, against Haiti on Saturday 10 January. Their other matches will be against Mexico, El Salvador, Cuba, and Honduras as they look for one of four spots open to CONCACAF in the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015.

Very nice result, and great to see so much of the team coming from our own development system.

I saw that roster. Quite a few players from FCE as well as the 3 MLS clubs. With one TFC player on loan in Europe. Makes it that much more important for the 3 MLS clubs to get their USLPro clubs up and running. Montreal is ready. TFC is close waiting for their home stadium to be built in Vaughan. Vancouver as well had the deal with New Westminster fall through with a hybrid ownership but they are continuing to make it Priority.
No Fury players as of yet but now with a pro club their Academy players will have a place to play pro in Canada. As they continue to grow the Academy from U18 to bridge the gap between the Pro Club.
All the more important to expand into the NASL with the stadiums now in place in cities like Hamilton and Winnipeg.
Victoria has a very successful and popular program which highest level in now PDL.
Looking at the reasonable coast of Bonney Field in SAC.
There are ownership groups in Calgary and Quebec City
As well for FCE Rexal has a few teams under the NHL as well as the community owned ESKs, who once did own a baseball team as well.
The Jets in Winnipeg are looking to add a WHL club and Winnipeg's CFL community owned team.
Will all or any of these happen is unsure right now but certainly now out of the question.

Very cool. This is where it will start for Canada and World Cup 2018 and beyond. The timing could not be more perfect as these young players will be able to stay in Canada with all 3 MLS clubs likely to have their USLPro clubs in tact right in the Canadian cities/Metro areas near their MLS Club. NASL club in the Alberta in FCE as well as Ottawa both seeming onboard with the concept of signing young Canadian Players.
Also within the most populated regions of the Golden Horseshoe a good chance that Hamilton may also be adding an NASL side by 2018. As it is part of the plan for Ti Cats owner Bob Young and the city of Hamilton adding a second full time tenant to THF.
As well the organizing at least in Quebec and Ontario now a Junior like Hockey situation.
As well PDL clubs independent of U23 MLS clubs for Academy Players Plus who have taken the University route.
I could see an NASL club in Hamilton partner with the Lynx or K-W PDL as well as Ontario Ligue1.
For Ottawa there is PLSQ FC Gatineau as well as the closest Ontario ligue1 Clippers in Kingston to fill the gap between the NASL club and the U18 Academy.
It will be interesting and exciting to watch this build

The crowd sounded like they were largely supporting Canada. Wondering if that's because our senior coach is from Spain.

At any rate, looks like it was a game with great flow. Both sides looked pretty good.

Could be, although there are enough people around the world who will cheer against the US just because it's the US.

I'm going to take the super optimistic view and say that it's because they liked our style of play.

Lost 2-0 to Mexico. Not the result we'd want, but they're the toughest competition we're facing in this tournament so still pretty hopeful for the final three games (and hopefully) either the final or the playoff for a WC position.

Mexico surely has #1 wrapped up and I think that we're in a battle with Honduras and El Salvador for the #2 and 3 spots. Today's game against El Salvador will be key. If we can win and Mexico beats Honduras then I'd say we pretty much have a lock on making the the top 3.

I like this generation of Canada in comparsion with previous one. Some Latin fantasy in the midfield with Petrasso and Bustos. A good centre forward, Hamilton and a very good goalie. He made some great saves against Mexico.

Disappointing losses to El Salvador and Cuba, we cannot make the top three now. Let's just hope for a strong outing against Honduras to leave on a positive note.
