Our performance had been quite good in recent weeks. We showed we can match the big teams and could have beaten them if not for defensive errors. So do you guys think we can get into the champions league spot with some summer transfers?
With Ramos in charge and the midfield being upgraded then I would expect us to contend very strongly. Certainly I think 4th place in the league is going to be wide open again like it is this year. I suppose the big factor will be if Berbs is sold, but even if he has that just puts more money in the transfer pot to replace him and upgrade elsewhere.
Let us not jump the gun. We have a good set up, but we still have a few holes. I'm going to wait until the end of summer to vote.
I say nay simply because I don't want to get my hopes up (ala this season) simply to be disappointed. I know it is possible, if the summer window is good, then definitely possible.
I'm also going to wait until the summer to see who comes in and who leaves but it's looking good right now.
Deja Vu. Last season we were much higher in the table but making a huge late-season run, things were going great and we were saying the same things ... "next year." In the offseason Jol challenged Berbatov because he had noted that everywhere Berb's has played he had a mediocre first half of the season and around Christmas really turned up his game. This season ... no change, Berbs is hotting up around the Christmas break. Jol's teams also got a lot better when we had a good veteran defender like Ledley King in there, and now that we've got Woodgate, it's the same thing, solid veteran central defender and we win games. None of this is new to me, this team is almost a broken record. I'm very excited about the new guys, because Woodgate and Hutton really add a new dimension to us. Bale has been an outstanding addition when healthy, and Gilberto looks to finally give us multiple left footed crossers. Replacing Robbo is the best possible thing we could have done, so that's positive too. But, Keano has had the best year of his career, he's scoring tons of goals, creating tons of opportunities, defending from the front, unselfishly rallying the team both on the field and in the locker room, he's really become the Captain we all knew he would become. It's going to be hard for Keane to reproduce the numbers he has this season. But, we look to finally have enough pieces to push through to a CL spot ... but this question is very deja vu. As for the midfield, i said in the summer that Jol would completely rethink our midfield with only Lennon and maybe Jenas staying. I think Ramos will do that next summer. I voted yes, but I'm an optimist. -Digital
that was easy. it's 'yes'. now, if the question had been "will we finally get into...", it would have been much more difficult.
I agree completely with electric, but I'll hold off on voting, like nutter and chan. I say we keep this poll in the back of our minds and revisit it in the beginning of August. We'll have a much better idea of our overall strengths and weaknesses then.
Right now, I'd say no. Goalkeeper and holding midfield are weaknesses that can't exist in a top 4 side. But who knows what might have happened by August?
I voted no cause I mean we have to let the back line get cohesion and replace the ones on the team that are not pulling there weight. I do think that we could have tons of success in the Cups mainly Uefa and or FA. League placement is hard to judge simply cause I did not see Aston Villa pushing for a Champions league spot so I mean who knows. For now though I will go no but I hope that the team can prove us nay sayers wrong that would be great.
Absolutely, we can do it. If we can keep this team together and add a world class keeper (possibly a real DM as well), then there is no reason why we can't be top 4 next season. If we lose Dimi and King turns out to be permanently crocked, then that's another story. But if you get a good pre season behind this team, I don't see any one of either Liverpool, City, Villa or Everton stopping us. Of course, another variable is how other teams improve. Liverpool will undoubtedly move to strengthen before next season. But their manager is being undermined and will probably get the boot in the summer, so it all depends how the new boy performs. As for City and Villa, I think they're batting above average already. Everton will be about the same, but I think we've got a better team than them. So yeah, long story short, we can and (subject to the above conditions) probably will do it.
I ony see us getting better; the big variable is Berbatov of course. I know one thing, I bet no one wants to play us right now!
It might still be too soon to judge, but with this new, improved defense, I think it's definitely possible. Ramos will have to bring in a couple mids during the summer window, though, esp a left winger. And of course, we'll see what the big Bulgarian decides to do. Things are lookin' pretty good at the moment though! But remember, this is Tottenham Hotspur we're talking about. It'll a rollercoaster ride, that's fo sho.
Not normally where I get my Spurs news, but a good read anyways. http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news;_y...F?slug=ys-extratime020308&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
it doesn't make me sad for leeds fans - it just makes me sad to be compared to pre-collapse leeds. we've been pretty damn loose with our spending, as well.
One thing I do have faith in about Levy is that he's not going to pull a Leeds implosion financially. Yes, we've been spending large amounts for a while now, but we have low wages and have earned money from sales of players too. Not to mention we have the highest ticket prices in the Premiership ... and I wouldn't be surprised if someone told me we had the highest in the world, it's just nuts. So, I think Levy is going to prevent us from committing financial suicide by overspending. Part of it will be selling Chimbonda this summer, as well as Robbo most likely. -Digital
