France would be annoyed watching this knowing they'd have battered Argentina and got revenge for the last WC, and England would be annoyed that Argentina used all the petrol in the tank to beat them and put up an insipid WC final.

Couldn't beat Cabo Verde, but still a pretty good tournament for Spain, I guess.

Bout time a team got punished for just letting a player just walk around the pitch.

Is this the slowest trophy-lift setup delay in WC history? Gee I wonder if someone in particular is a primary factor in that.

Trump forgot to give medals to 2 of the refs. But don't worry he's good with his finger on the nuclear button.

He's a klepto, he will sell them off post match. He keeps stealing the fake gold scissors they give for for grand openings.

I don't think Rodri was POTT, Bellingham was much better, but they got the young player of the tournament 100% spot on.

Messi crying not because they lost but because he is downwind from Donald and realised he has to enter the blast zone to get a silver medal.

Trump's hand is going to be so disgusting after shaking all these hands.

Spain play the next WC on home soil, gotta be big favorites to repeat.

It will go down in history as a disgrace.

And no, zero xG in 90 mins isn't a classic for the ages. Argentina had zero shots on goal. An embarassing performance from them

I see people have not understood a reference to classic world cup games, which i thought was a common idea

Perhaps I should have said signature games. Signature games define a great side or an era. An example is Brazil vs Italy in 1982 where Rossi scored his hattrick, announced himself, eliminated the great Brazil side and went on to lift the cup. A recent example is the 2022 final where two heavy weight giants went toe to toe

This tournament doesn't have a signature game in my view, nor did any truly great side announce itself. Only Spain played 3 heavy weights, and fairly obviously the semi vs France was the actual final. Yet as in the euros, france meekly surrendered and failed to become an era defining side. Are Spain a great side? In some respects holding the Euro and WC trophies at once. But hardly the stuff that makes the pulse race in attack, yet again struggling to score with an unfit Yamal. If the Euros version Yamal graced this World Cup then the experience would have been much different IMO.

Argentina, resilience aside, played 25 mins of good football vs England who inexplicably imploded. Spain revealed what a limited side Argentina are, and how washed Messi is (England also showed this for 60 mins before self sabotaging).

So a limp end to the tournament with 2 poor quality semis and a disgraceful final.

All that said, I've argued myself that the real defining quality of this tournament is how good the smaller teams are now

Unlike others, I really admire this Spanish team. (I also liked the 2008-2012 side).

They've had to do this with limited attacking resources thanks to the fitness issues with Yamal and Williams, and they've done it with style and amazing technical skill. Unheralded Dani Olmo was the player of the tournament for me. He was certainly much more influential in dominating games that other, higher scoring players

It's kind of hilarious that in this 'post-pep" world all the cool kids thought you could just pack your side with hard running goons, attack from wide, and not have to worry about possession and positional stuff.

Instead the final was contested by two teams quite comfortable in possession, and with functional high and counter presses

International football remains quite different to the high end of the champions league
