England players were so bunched up with absolutely zero outlets up top or wide, my only thought was "HOW in the world will they take off this pressure, even when they win the ball?" They're just punting it back to Argentina to start over again.
To be fair, we do play that way at times. But we don’t concede shots when we do that, and England conceded a ton.

ARG does seem to have several players who are super talented at scoring long shots from outside the penalty area. Alvarez against Swiss, Enzo with ARG’s first goal today as prime examples. If a team like ARG can systematically draw out defenders to defend/attack shots, then we see the utter breakdown of the low block like we saw today. This may also help explain why Arteta wants Alvarez and Rodgers badly
Two very good shots from distance, but perhaps different in terms of pressure. Alvarez's was amidst tighter pressure I recall, whereas Fernandez's was not. England left him wide open with a few seconds to set his shot. Jude realized this and came rushing out, but it was too late. But you're right both were splendid, well-taken shots, hit hard and from distance.

Just watched Tuchel's post-match presser. I found part of it a little bizarre, and I don't think he was being honest nor owning up to a tactical mistake on his part. He was asked something like why ARG were able to reverse the dominance and momentum so easily and effectively. His answer was mainly about how South American teams key off possession, and how his players weren't able to take the necessary actions to disrupt that. Even though previously he'd talked about switching from 422 to 532 to 541, he didn't take any responsibility or make any connection between switching to that much deeper setup, which invited them to possess the ball more.
Enzo’s was right in the middle of the goal. Allowing unscreened shots from there is really bad but it’s not even like he placed it that well. Pickford is garbage.
