The Fire also announced that it has received a player allocation from MLS for Nowak’s retirement.

Didn't he retire after being traded to the Revs? Or did I just completely miss something in the midst of the fire fan hysteria and he was traded back for a draft pick? Why would they get an allocation though?

    f(__) this s(___).

Nowak was traded to Revs for whatever or whoever. He decided to retire. Revs got their whoever/whatever back..

    Now the fire get someone?

"He was traded back to Chicago so he could retire a Chicago player."

and it didn't end.. if this was ANY OTHER team (exception LA, NY, DC) you'd hear the end of it...

This is known as the "Marquee Player Replacement Rule." If a "Marquee Player" leaves a team, the team gets an allocation.

Best example I can think of "JW Perez, Allocated to Columbus Crew in March 2000 for loss of Stern John."

Now because we insist on youth who are either cut, released, traded, or other players who go to England, we don't see a lot of this. It really doesn't help us when we don't get big name players. Teams like f*re who get big names left and right see this almost every year.

Columbus - Leads league in attendance and season tickets sold. First team with specific training grounds and currently only SSS in the league.

MLS - eff columbus, they can live without our help, let's help ************ teams like metrosucks, fire and dirty c___t united

    Fixed your post.

You shouldn't speak the FULL nickname of that "team" from up north, Krypto.

MLS - Making up the rules as we go, since 1996.

Actually, Krypto, Calvinball has more structure to it ;)

Next thing you know, Mathis will be out for the year, and the Pukes will get an allocation out of it :p

I think that when Chicago traded Nowak to New England, there was a clause stating Chicago would retain the rights to any allocation received in the event Nowak retired. I think that's worded correctly. If that's the case, don't be pissed at MLS; give credit to Chicago for slipping that into the trade.

I'm not pissed. It's just one of those things you look at and think, "wtf? only in mls."

It wasn't directed at you my fine hippie friend. It's more pre-emptive "strike" against the inevitable "We always get screwed" retort.

I didn't take it as "we got screwed". I took it as seeing another example of the big market teams getting a bit more "love" than the others.

With that said, I hope that Ned Flanders (a.k.a. Crew GM Smith) can be just as creative in his trades and dealings.

It's that new P.E. license. Have the power, too, someday you will.

I thought the trade was voided when Nowak retired. NE got their draft pick back as if the trade never happened. Therefore, Nowak was still a F*re player when he retired and any allocation, deserved or undeserved, would have gone to Chicago.

I know we got Perez as an allocation for Stern John. Does anyone remember who we got for Caligiuri when he was re-allocated to LA, or for Friedel when he went to England?

I am STILL wondering what "future considerations" we got from New England for trading Juergen Sommer to them a few years ago.

I wanna say Sommer for Friedel. Don't know about who we got for Paul.

Andy, I wanna say we got a draft pick. Don't know for sure though.

They did. I thought that rule took effect here. I was wrong.

Like previously said, Fire keep the allocation, because it was written into the trade.
