I hate to say it, but unless Zirkzee and/or Brobbey can find their form by the time the Spain game comes around, Depay should still be considered for our striker position. He's playing well in Brazil so far. Last week he hit a screamer.

Gulp.. the thought of having Memphis leading the line is quite depressing. And his insistence of wearing that retro headband doesn’t help in this case :D:D

I think the best case scenario would be for Brobbey to return to his usual self again. It’s mind blowing that it took him forever, until last weekend, to score his first goal this season in the league. Maybe now the drought is over, he will start hitting marks consistently. I remember he had a long dry spell last season, and once he scored, he couldn’t keep scoring.

I don’t think Zirkzee could be a lone striker, especially not now… I think he’s more of a support striker.

Koeman's refusal to select Sem Steijns is ridiculous to the hilt, while selecting dudes, one of them playing in the same league, who have trouble finding the back of the net.

Steijn not ready for Oranje either.

nobody is ready unless they play.

  6. He's more ready than Brobbey and Zirkzee, he scores, he plays well...both in the Eredivisie as in UEFA competitions.
Maybe he get selected if bought by PSV or Ajax.

Steijn is an attacking midfielder, is he not? I agree he should be in Oranje.. but I am not sure if he actually competes with Brobbey for a spot. Maybe Zirkzee.

Yes a 10 is probably accurate but honestly he’s not above the Midfield options currently within the Oranje setup.

The midfield injury crisis has obviously lightened up significantly (thank goodness!) but I think Koeman should be doing himself a service by trying out and integrating new players… especially somebody like Steijn, who’s deserving, on fire and currently leading Eredivisie in Goals + Assists (12). Otherwise, Koeman will be stuck with questionable players (I recalled Guus Til was included in the provisional squad last month o_O)

Certainly Steijn is much better than Til. He is really a true attacking MF

Til certainly has no business being called up for Oranje and the same goes for Veerman.
Steijn over Q Timber in his current form too, although in my opinion Timber has a higher ceiling, but for me he’s below the first 6 that I listed here.

    Oranje Midfield options are:
    Frenkie
    Reijnders
    Koopmeiners
    Gravenberch
    Schouten
    Xavi # 10
Even Zirkzee and Kluivert as 10
    Milambo?

Without Friendly matches it’s very difficult to crack into the team, and it’s also impossible to build chemistry to begin with.

Oranje have had so many injuries, and that in itself makes it very difficult whether we like Koeman or not.

Steijn needs to build on what’s he doing at Club level with Twente in the Europa League, and further himself quite possibly elsewhere next season which is likely.

Because Player (whoever and wherever he plays at) has some good matches doesn’t warrant immediate inclusion into Oranje.
    Ridiculous fanboy mentality is crazy.

It's not about a player having a few good matches. It's about a player having very good matches COMPARED to those selected (Brobbey/Zirkzee).
Steijn is such a smart player, he can fill in the striker position, which he during a match for Twente alternates with Lammers.
If Koeman selects players and puts them on spots not being their best/natural position (Simons/Frimpong etc.), for sure Steijn should be on his list too and on the pitch.

Steijn is not at the level of Xavi or Frimpong.
Both have more experience of playing in much bigger matches.

  14. No, I'm saying he should replace either Brobbey or Zirkzee. He switches position with Lammers at Twente all the time, so basically also playing a striker position AND scoring smart and beautiful goals.

Personally speaking I don’t see it having watched Twente play 8 times this season.
Salzburg in both Qualifying matches, Utrecht, Man United, Fenerbahce, Feyenoord, Lazio, and Ajax.

Certainly Koeman should think about a False 9 system with question marks over the Striker role, and this would also allow for greater midfield dominance and possession.

Brobbey is so much stronger, faster, and athletic, then Steijn, and gets the shite beat out of him there, but with better and faster service he should be more than capable.

Zirkzee is lost somewhere so it’s hard to defend him at all, but having watched him play last season at Bologna he can offer much more of himself in the right system.

Memphis a Koeman Love is lurking, and there you have a False 9 or Full 9, which I don’t think anyone within our forum is happy about.

Timber is in Champions League team of the week. Gakpo keep scoring for Liverpool. It is refreshing to see players from Eredivisie doing very well when joining top clubs. It has been a long time since we see that. For the last decade, the successful players are taking the long road by joining mid size clubs first and then top club after. It seems that the level of Eredivisie has gone up significantly in the last few years.

I knew Koop had a good season, but I was surprised Zirkzee made the team too

Yes Zirkzee played very well, and was on the radar with several teams eventually moving to ManU which is not going all that well.
He is now being linked with Juventus who are now Managed by Thiago Motta who was with Bologna last season.

I'm starting to hope our idiot in command the Cowhead, is going to put Hato on the pitch against Spain.
Against FC Utrecht Hato was owned continually by Rodríguez, but strolled leisurely over the pitch as if he's Beckenbauer himself.
When he gets trashed on that level, we might see the back of him as an Orange player. The only one in the Ajax defense worth while is Baas, but it's his tough luck we have an overload of CD's of top quality present and coming.

Baas has not played particularly well lately, and I don’t think he’s anything special.
Ajax looked very shaky vs Utrecht while Gaaei and Hato were under pressure from Cathline and Rodriguez often.
Ironically both Ajax outside backs scored.
    Gaaei’s strike was incredible.
