He doesnt have the cutting edge and is one trick pony. If he cant cut inside or gets closed off( angle) he is useless. He cant go outside and neither he combines with overlapping fullbacks as he has to cut inside and pull that trigger. Predictable and vs big teams he is easily nullified. . Vs argentina WC in generally regardless of the controversies. Look at the Germany game.flashes only on counters ( runs). This phase of play needs to change.Lang and kluivert, danjuma are all dual footed tricky and can cut inside and go out as well. Plus good crossers as well. How many crosses did we see in the Germany game especially with brobbey playing and who has arieal stronghold. Compared that to what Germany were doing. You can do the maths here
I am with you… in two years, the midfield would so, so good. I think it has a lot potential to carry the team deep in the tournament. Imagine much-improved Reijnders, Gravenberch (Pogba-wannabe), and Simons (growing in confidence), Koopmeiners and a healthy Frenkie de Jong (dare to dream?) Attack will be in a nice shape too with Gakpo (ignore all the haters, he’s heading into stardom!) and a sharper Zirkzee coached daily by Van Nilsterooy. Add in Brobbey as an X-factor. Defense will be a suspect (just like this past Summer’s Euro). But who cares, as long as you can outscore the opponent, you’ll be fine Verbruggen’s development will be very highly desirable. It’s been a long while since Oranje has a reliable GK (Van der Sar).
35273 Koeman with a quote for the ages: "it's not that de Ligt makes more mistakes than others, it's that the team gets punished whenever he makes one"
I want to you to go back and look at most of the big games NT has played in last 2 years and look at his performances, Italy, France, Argentina, England, Croatia. It fluctuates drastically from when he plays vs average to weaker teams. I have already looked at it but want you to check it out so that you realize how foolish your hatred comment really is. It’s on the record. His performances fluctuate from good to average depending on the opponents and this is where his style of play and qualities from individual point of view comes in. One trick pony, cut in from the left and pulling the trigger. I mean you look at the Germany game and compare him to Simons who was played out of his stronghold position on RW, but lived to expectation better than him . This is what I’m trying to say. Gakpo cannot go out of his comfort zone and then there are options out there who are more technical than him in terms of what they can offer in general lastly I want to say this, I don’t think he will be able to bench Diaz at Liverpool. And reaching stardom sitting on the bench is not possible either. I’m just talking facts here and you just have to see the overall picture and which direction it’s pointing. I’m certainly not saying he plays with his hands on the hips or neither he is a bad player but you have to look at the upgrading aspect especially when it’s avaliable. This is the only way to enhance the quality of the team. again give a feedback of the breakdown of his performance in those games I have mentioned on top
Arjen Robben would then qualify as a one trick pony too, cut in from the right and pulling the trigger. Everybody knew what he was going to do, yet they still couldnot stop him.
Gakpo is hardly ever dispossessed and is quick for a tall wing player. He also has good field awareness and seldom gets into situations where he is double teamed. Assuming no injuries, he will be with the NT through the next two big tournaments. How much playing time he gets will be determined by the manager and not anyone on this forum.
@wilson00 is sort of right, Gakpo against top teams hasnt done all that well. But I dont see anyone better currently who can take over, plus Gakpo is only 25, there's still plenty of time for improvement
Very busy with work the past few days prevented me from posting my thoughts on the match up until now so here I go. Great start with the early goal and I really enjoyed Brobbey’s bossing of Tah. I thought Oranje defended far too much, and of course that would work against them as Germany wound up taking the lead after a terrible mistake by De Ligt playing a stupid pass that created the equalizer, and then Timber was caught not getting goal side on ball played across the box. Terrible shame about Ake getting hurt. Second half Oranje equalized after 5 minutes after pressing and the Hulk Brobbey again causing much problems for Germany. Oranje a little disconnected in the midfield defensively I thought. Van Hecke on for the error prone De Ligt looked a little stiff and not great on the ball playing mostly safe sideways passing. De Ligt meanwhile will be under the microscope at dysfunctional ManU, needs to regain his confidence any competence with his decision making. Gravenberch looks like a Rolls Royce out there. Absolutely fantastic and hoping for this forum under Arne Slot to continue.
consistent, individual quality, cutting edge and above all was on another level. gakpo doesn’t fall in neither of these category so yeah that’s that. I think you simply don’t want to to acknowledge or see both side of the coin. Dos and do nots. When to expect and when not to expect. How many tournaments has gakpo played so far 5-6. The trend factor has been same. His comfort zone and how his performances revolves around it. But hey look , nobody is saying he doesn’t deserve to be playing but simply others should be given the opportunity to showcase their talents as well. Lang and Simons are good ballers as well Summerville and Van bommel also are coming up. What do you expect for them to just stand in the que for the next two tournaments. They need to be injected Just like Zirkzee and brobbery who now will be going toe to toe to claim that starting. I mean if you think about this shud have been way back in the case with Depay. This is what is call a positive mindset and again it will only build a good depth. For days if he is not available also.you have to lookout of the box and not every time when there is injuries, the coordinations in the team gets off.
Gakpo has shown the ability to play all across the attack and the 10 at Liverpool in the past which proves he certainly has the tactical flexibility to play in different positions I also think it would be helpful for Koeman to utilize a more dynamic attack which changes positions especially with Zirkzee at the False 9 along with his abilty to drift between the lines and create space for others. Even Brobbey with his holdup play and ability to play quick combination football will help Gakpo and Simons more than Memphis who in recent times lost some pace. Great to have these options and I certainly look forward to seeing Lang and Summerville prosper along with Frimpong bombing on the right. Many possibilities and quality for Koeman to utilize.

People like Wim Kieft should just keep their opinions to themselves. He's uttering absolute garbage by saying that while Zirk and Brob have done well for the NT Depay should not be discarded yet cause the pressure in a Nation's League match is different to that of a World Cup (quite the revelation, smh). Has this fool missed the last WC? How did Depay do? Such an idiotic remark to when he's rebutting himself in the same argument. Why did AM not fight to keep him? Same for Barca. Why didn't any other club in Europe want Depay that he ended up in Brazil? Depay should be done for the NT. No more.
I wrote during the EURO2024 that having Depay on the pitch is like playing with 10 men. It's actually worse. Playing with 10 men you have 10 men going for it and the team. Playing with Depay means when he has the ball, you're worse off, because then the 10 others can't do anything usefull for the team. Depay lately is in the team for his own sake, not that of the squad, because his aim is to become Orange Topscorer.
His individual pursuit of this record is detrimental to the rest of the squad and he shouldn't be allowed to be a burden for the NT any further. Moreover, this might sound harsh, but it would be a shame for a player like Depay to take the top scorer title from someone like van Persie IMO. Robin was the kind of player you'd attend a match just to see, Depay doesn't have that allure.
De Ligt had his chance, and he blew this up... big time. It will need a massive recovery to regain Koeman's and his teammates' trust and confidence. It would very interesting how much of a jump van Hecke will/can make this season. He broke through and started becoming regular early last season. He excelled so much that by season's end, he was in the club's shortlist of player of the season. He needs another eye-popping season, maybe even bigger than before (similar to van der Ven last season). If he can make this kind of leap, he could very well take the RCD spot in Oranje. His playing with Verbruggen week-in and week-out is an huge advantage. I don't see any other option that would challenge the RCD. Geertruida and J. Timber should not be forced-fit while playing at different positions for their respective clubs. Can't go back to De Vrij (he should be retired). Maybe Koeman can convince Virgil to play RCD (while giving up the LCD spot to the left-footed Ake or van der Ven) -- but Virgil has said that LCD is his best and natural position, so this probably should not be disrupted. From the U21 rank, Flamingo is an interesting talent, though it looks like that he will need at least a full season at PSV before being taken seriously. Gravenberch's long pinpoint pass, from his own half, to find Simons just outside the box --- that was simply incredible. He is definitely talented, just needs to keep him motivated. Slot will make Gravenberch better.
Schuurs was having a Good season at torino before he got injured. Not sure though if the selectors will look at him playing at mid table club though. It's also a pity coz Danilo doekhi at Union Berlin have been playing regularly for up to 3 seasons now and will not get a look at. Well he wasnt even when union Berlin finished 4 same season back and qualified for CL. Maybe he shud think about coming back to eredivisie. Top 3 could guarantee him a spot in NT. Easier route On another note Im worried about maatsen. I think he had gone in to koeman bad book and I'm sure when hartman returns , he will use him Ake and timber to justify his non selection. Its really sad when you see this happening. Maatsen shud having been clocking minutes now and building that confidence level with more caps.
Nothing to worry about Maatsen... he's slowly being introduced at Aston Villa. His total minutes in the first three EPL games were: 16, 14 and 11. All came off the bench. Not exactly inspiring. I'd say he should focus at club, get more minutes there, show progress, claim a starting lineup -- and a call to Oranje will naturally follow. In the meantime, he is still eligible for Jong Oranje (and played two full 90-minute games), so at least he got some international experience and valuable playing times to shake off the rust (better than sitting on the bench had he been called up to Oranje Sr.) Haartman is not returning until beginning of 2025 (last I read). I think between Haartman and Maatsen, those two should compete and back-up each other well in Oranje. Ake and van der Ven should really be at LCD (successor to Virgil).
