The changes in the midfield was by subbing in a more attacking player, Quinten Timber, removing a defensive strong one, Schouten. So now he had to show his defensive part of the midfield game, and he failed.
In here you see his initial role: with Schouten in the defensive role. With the subbing in of QTimber, he had to take the Schouten role, while Timber took over his role. He failed to pluck the holes JTimber created by going forwards and far too slow tracking back again.
I wonder what teams like Bosnia are doing in the A-league. The leagues were ment to have in strength comparable teams playing each other, which Bosnia and Hungary clearly arenot.
The defense needs some works to do. Granted it wasn't the best day of Ake (rusty, as he's only had six mere minutes this season so far, if I heard the TV commentator correctly). Dumfries didn't switch to his beast-mode yesterday, though I thought Virgil had a very decent game, not much to nitpick. OTOH De Ligt needs to improve a lot if he wants to stay in the starting lineup. The optimistic view is... this was his first full game in Oranje under Koeman in a long time, so he wasn't well integrated. Both goals were simply mis-understanding that could easily be fixed. The glass-half-empty view would be that he is prone to silly mistakes due his often lapse in concentration. We'll see if he recovers in the next game! Offensive-wise. This team boasts nice talents and "technicians". With the addition of Gravenberch, Zirkzee and Q. Timber (joining the already-comfortable Gakpo, Simons, Reijnders and Schouten), there is now a group of core players who can keep possessions, play quick passes, and exchange touches fluidly. How Gravenberch and Reijnders dictated the tempo was beautiful to watch. Simons was excellent and lively, looks like he's been totally unleashed and getting a license to be anywhere he wants. The potential to play the "Dutch way" is clearly there -- obviously the next step will be to see if this bunch can grow and gel together. Even encouraging, Koeman still has his two top-shelf midfielders in Frenkie de Jong and Koopmeiners to call upon (hopefully soon!). That will definitely raise the roof even higher! Gakpo, much like Dumfries, didn't get into his second gear yesterday... yet he was alert and was able to score a tumbled tap-in. With Memphis is out the picture, Gakpo should be the alpha-attacker. Hopefully Zirkzee would continue to accelerate his education in goal-scoring under Nistelrooy to share some of the burden upfront. I don't have a ton confidence in Weghorst to lead the line (though I must say, he's a great pinchitter!). Brobbey remains an unknown... for now.
Because it relegated teams like Germany to the 2nd tier. They immediately expanded the number of entries. Germany was no longer relegated but more and more 'fodder' entered. In other words: there has to be a buffer against the cash cows dropping out.
The NL isnot a worldwide broadcasted event, making big bucks. Edit: So that argument doesnot hold. There were high profile games, like France vs Italy, but I doubt these were broadcasted beyond the two countries involved.
A EURO/WC match between the Orange Squad and Germany would spur alot of attention worldwide, but in this NL context it's just the two countries involved, interested. Edit: in the EURO/WC case, sponsors would queuing to get onboard. Here not so much.
After the first edition Germany was relegated to the 2nd tier. UEFA responded immediately with an expansion and the relegation was annulled. This are just the dry events. What UEFA could have done as well: it goes into effect for the next cycle, more teams will promote than relegate in the new edition.
The question now becomes, if Koopmeiners has a dynamite year with Juve, where does he fit into the midfield?? The answer is he kinda doesnt. He might fit in as a late minute sub
Depends on the opposition. But with a coach with engrained preferences not based on tactical analysis, but on favourism, it is bound to end up in sticking to the usual ones as using the all purpose cleaning fluid instead of specialized ones. Gravenberch against an opposition with hard forward press is a recipe for disaster. If it is combined with JTimber on the leftback position we can forget about clean slates.
Weghorst not happy with Timber https://www.ad.nl/nederlands-voetba...pt-boos-van-veld-na-training-oranje~ae93db84/
Enjoyed the dynamic movement and combo play yesterday from Oranje. Regarding the errors and specifically the goals conceded on the first it was the entire midfield which is at fault allowing far too much space that ultimately caught De Ligt and Virgil under duress. Midfield MUST recover its shape quickly when not in possession. Second goal J. Timber pushed up on left, Zirkzee chases back but De Ligt who I like reads it wrong and almost hesitates hoping Verbruggen comes off his line I’m thinking. Just a dumb mistake. Koeman mistakes from minute 60-80 not subbing properly while Bosnia started to get into the match as Oranje tempo dropped. Brobbey and Frimpong should have played. Frimpong dynamic player didn’t look thrilled at end of match, and I hear he’s left camp and won’t play vs Germany on Tuesday for some undisclosed reason . That Weghorst with his arrogant attitude I pick up on scores a garbage goal probably damages Brobbey confidence which is pretty low as of now. Of course Koeman announces Brobbey to start vs Germany is just plain stupid, dumb, and wrong. Why not continue with Zirkzee who played pretty well yesterday? These preconceived subs and squad rotation of Koeman is stupid. Oranje have some nice squad depth and quality all of which is great, but Koeman needs to wake up and open his eyes to getting things right. I’m looking forward to seeing Koopmeiners who is arguably the best midfielder in Serie A with the ability to play the 6, 8, & 10 at a high level, but as someone mentioned he might not be preferred. Bottom line Koeman needs to make it work with 16 players per match who are all pretty capable of playing good football. Work on that dynamic and faster combination play in attack, and defensive organization, with better midfield awareness by quickly recovering its shape between the lines when not on possession.
Frimpong has left training camp for personal reasons. Rumor is a death in his family. No word if he'll back for Germany game, and Koeman wont call up a replacement
World class analysis based on one match. Let's throw them both out of the team as the jury is in. they are just not good enough!!!!
de Ligt peaked as a 19 year old during the Ajax CL run in 2019. Has not performed up to that level since moving abroad (though he got shafted at Bayern as the manager thought two lesser players were better).
No, not throw them out, use them when their strong points match the opponent. I already before the match explained why I think JT as leftback isnot a good idea, neither for Arsenal or the Orange Squad, which means he should be considered for the rightback position as an option. I also pointed at the flaw Gravenberch has since Ajax, before the match. He was very good, until he was tasked with a role, exactly adressing the weak spot I before the match mentioned. So no, not based on the match, but based on the outcome in this match confirming what I posted before. I already also posted I don't trust Koeman to handle players according to their capabilities, but solely on his personal liking and preferences.
We made the euro semi-finals, and now we beat Bosnia 5-2 and you're questioning Koeman?? Which coach should replace him??
32592 You missed/forgot all my posts referring to how lucky he always is? Has nothing to do with him being good.
Well, if one wants to expose being stupid, Wim Kieft scored some points. https://www.fcupdate.nl/voetbalnieu...roblemen-op-kan-leveren-voor-koeman-en-oranje 'Situation at Ajax can drive Ronald Koeman into a corner at Oranje' Frank Hoekman 6 September 2024, 20:49 Kieft has his doubts about Zirkzee, whom he calls 'still a bit too light for the Orange'. "Everyone sees that Zirkzee can play football and yet it remains to be seen with him at the top level. His game and development offer no guarantees for the time being," writes Kieft, who points out that Zirkzee is more 'the wandering striker' than a classic 'number 9'. Well, that didnot age well.
I really like Schouten, I really do. A tidy player with appetite to move the ball forward. But he’s not at the same level as Koopmeiners (who has proved to be one of the best midfielders in Italy). So assuming that Gravenberch-as-a-DM experiment (transformation) is alive and well under Slot at Pool, I can see a scenario where Koopmeiners and Reijnders go higher in midfield to support the attack, while Gravenberch sits deep to break down opponent’s plays and to win ball back. I am salivating if/when you throw Frenkie to the mix, but that’s a bit premature not knowing what’s going to happen to Frenkie this season.
De Ligt shouldn't even be a back-up CB at this point. He really peaked in 2019 at 17 years old. What a monumental disappointment he turned out to be. That CL run did help his career as he has been vastly overrated since. He's already costing Manchester United goals and obviously the NT as well. Time to move on from 2019 and select better defenders that will actually help the team out.
C'mon man. The Euro's is simply a bad argument to make for Koeman. Surely you cannot ignore the fact that we got the overwhelmingly easier side of the bracket leading up to the semi-finals and lost the moment we faced a serious team. What are the odds that we would have reached the semi-finals the way Spain did it?
In fairness, he was actually the best defender at Juventus (minus the first half year) and also at Bayern. His preferred position is clearly the left side (where VvD plays - Fbref says he is most similar to Van Dijk), not the right. He has not played there for a very long time.
32970 So why does mr. stubborn keep playing players out of their best position? It's not like mr stubborn can be surprised with de Ligt's sub par filling in the right CD spot (Czech red card anyone?). Now he did it again with JTimber at a position completely foreign to him, left back with the argument he plays it at Arsenal (sub in a few minutes and some minutes as a starter, before being pulled off for injury?) and to give him a push up in the back.
