Checking my notes... Definitieve selectie Oranje Doel: Justin Bijlow (Feyenoord), Mark Flekken (SC Freiburg) en Andries Noppert (SC Heerenveen). Verdediging: Nathan Aké (Manchester City), Sven Botman (Newcastle United), Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool), Denzel Dumfries (Inter), Lutsharel Geertruida (Feyenoord), Matthijs de Ligt (Bayern München), Tyrell Malacia (Manchester United) en Jurriën Timber (Ajax). Middenveld: Frenkie de Jong (Barcelona), Teun Koopmeiners (Atalanta), Marten de Roon (Atalanta), Joey Veerman (PSV), Mats Wieffer (Feyenoord) en Georginio Wijnaldum (AS Roma). Aanval: Steven Bergwijn (Ajax), Cody Gakpo (Liverpool), Noa Lang (Club Brugge), Donyell Malen (Borussia Dortmund), Xavi Simons (PSV) en Wout Weghorst (Manchester United). 19162
I only checked his wiki page, and it says just "midfielder". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mats_Wieffer From the one game I watched I already liked him better than deRoon though
If im not wrong than feyenoord mostly played point forward in the midfield with wieffer on the right and kokcu on the left. wieffer is more like modern day CM. In comparison if you look at the AZ with clasie in point back set up then its more a traditional style AM, DM and BTB. even if you look veernman he was in the same boat at heerneveen where he use to play deep in that point back set up. At PSV he had fit in that point forward set up and I remeber saying, this will be a stepping stone in his development. koopmeiners was also in the same boat when he was at AZ but now playing in that 3-4-3 formation has seen him evolve also in a modern midfielder. Matusiwa again at Groningen and now at Remis. also recall how clasie under koeman and later on found to it hard adpoting to the double pivot set up at southamptom and had to drop put. van ginkel as well. its good to finally see that shift from traditional to the modern day style. i mean from the BTB days
Koop scored 10 goals in 33 games this season. So he's definitely starting to improve https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teun_Koopmeiners
I think roughly 60% of his matches are defensive midfield, 20% as centre midfield and 20% as attacking midfield.
So reading between the lines, it sounds like Frimpong is mad as hell for not being picked by Koeman, and has decided to not play for Jong Oranje either: https://www.ad.nl/nederlands-voetba...remie-frimpong-ik-vind-dit-niet-oke~aeb199d5/ Cant say I really blame him. Just a matter of time until he suits up for Ghana or England
Can’t blame him at all. Koeman is a complete idiot. The guy is in the best XI of the year of the Bundesliga which speaks volumes to his consistency and the season he had. Even van Gaal picked him for the WC and that was BEFORE he made it into the Bundesliga best XI. Koeman’s arguments for not selecting him are absolute garbage and I’d be mad too. Ridiculous decision.
If the Euro started today my XI would be: 5-3-2 Dumfries-------vDijk----------deLigt---------Aké-----Hartman Malen-----------Frenkie-------------Reijnders/Simons ----------Gakpo/Depay or Gakpo/Weghorst----------- 4-3-3 Dumfries-----------vDijk---------Aké------------Hartman Frenkie-----------De Roon/Wieffer-------------Reijnders Malen......................Gakpo...........................Simons
Here's my starting XI... based on today's form. Really hope that Koeman will revert back to 4-3-3. I would have Koopmeiners to bring in more offensive power, with perhaps a little sacrifice in the defensive midfield position (which I am not too overly concerned as both Van Dijk and Ake are currently playing at their peak level). 4-3-3 Dumfries-----------vDijk---------Aké------------Hartman Frenkie-----------Koopmeiners ------------- Reijnders Malen------------Gakpo---------------Simons
I'm actually not sold on Gakpo as striker. More inclined to try Zirkzee and Brobbey in the friendlies.
I’ve been saying this myself. He’s a wide attacker, perhaps a 10 or False 9 if anything . Not physical enough for a striker or 9 and most importantly doesn’t score enough goals
But neither is Depay. And Brobbey and Zirkzee are completely untested in international matches. So even if you try Brobbey/Zirkzee in our upcoming 2 friendlies, you're still taking a big chance if you start either of them in the Euro. Gakpo however has WC experience, and played reasonably well IMO
Depay goal scoring speaks for itself despite his unconventional positional play, and it’s not a bad thing at all that several other guys are able to play in various positions across the front line or even as a playmaker 10. Gakpo lacks physicality in my opinion to play as a true 9, and yes indeed he did have a good World Cup. Koeman may use a False 9, and if so Brobbey then won’t get the nod, but I believe he shows some positive qualities to play that true 9 Striker role. Zirkzee needs to be given a chance also I believe, but who really knows what Koeman is thinking about.
