What are the chances of Roma defeating Real Madrid? Roma are the underdogs for this clash as they were last season against Lyon.

    Please provide your thoughts.

The way we've been playing as of late I think it will be very tough for us to advance against Real Madrid. I think we have the components to beat them, but the team just isn't clicking. Had this match taken place at the start of the season I would be a lot more confident.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe Real won like 7-0 this past weekend. If that's correct, then Roma must be very worried. We have not been on great form as of late, but i think Spalletti will get this side energized and on form for this match. I'm sure Totti will be at 100% by next week as well. If he's motivated, then the rest of the team will feed off him.

Im not sure about this match, Real right now are on great form, where as Roma's is not as good as I would have hoped going into this. Is Juan going to be fit for it?

Why isn't there an option to vote for "Yes, they will destroy them"?

Honestly, I think it is more likely that we do not advance, but it is certainly possible for us to beat them. They are not unbeatable and we have a strong squad ourselves.

He's training again with the team, so it's very possible. Right now they are considering starting him for the Juventus match.

yeah, they played well, but then again, valladolid was incredibly naive. once they went 1-0 down they pushed forward leaving gaping holes at the back. the third goal was just a long ball down the touchline from guti, and robben ha all day to run onto it, and had no defenders to beat an as 1-1 with the goalkeeper. then, for the fifth goal, i believe, guti, who isn't the fleetest of foot, had alllll daaaayyyy to run onto a long ball from deep from drenthe, and he settled, stuttered stepped into it, let the keeper commit a little bit, an still he had no defender within 7-8 meter radius when he shot. not that it takes anything away from real madrid, as they and guti especially played a terrific game, but no way it should have been that easy to get 7. this is especially with robinho out for most of the game.

yeah, robinho being out and juan being back and totti and aquilani getting back to good levels of fitness gives you guys a good shot, i'd say, but you need to win at the olimpico and not have to go chase a result at the bernabeu. real madrid is definitely the favorites, but before the valladolid game, they really laid an egg versus little almeria, so it's not like their form had been as great as it was earlier in the season these past 5 weeks (they also crashed out of the copa del rey remember).

plus, robinho is like their totti, it is a huge loss, as he had been playing so well for them this season, and guys like baptista and sneijder and others, just don't provide the same spark that he can. also, this means guti will have more of a creative burden, and he runs hot and cold, so it is actually, paradoxically, a good thing if he has some great games into the run-up, as he is one of the most schizophrenic players i have seen. he'll give 2 world-class performances in a row followed by 2 awful ones, and then back again, with no rhyme or reason for the form change.

should be an exciting tie nonetheless

Looks like Snejder won't be making the game against us! Right now Real Madrid are missing:

    PEPE
    SAVIOLA
    ROBINHO
    SNEJDER
    METZELDER

Roma isn't in the greatest form right now. But personally I do believe that if they are in form, they have the quality to make Real Madrid struggle. For example in this years Champions League group stages, when Roma faced Manchester United, the first time they gave them a challenge, Manchester United struggled to pick up a 1-0 win.

I think Roma has the quality to definitely make Real Madrid struggle, but Roma must be totally in form. Hopefully they can use the Juventus game this weekend wisely.

I will be rooting for Roma in the Champions League game against Real Madrid, Italy needs to have their teams advance, AC Milan will be dealing with Arsenal, Roma will be dealing with Real Madrid, and however much (if that makes sense, which probably doesn't) Inter can be classified as an Italian team, they will be dealing with Liverpool, and have their usual Champions League "back-luck" to deal with as well.

I'm hoping at least two Italian teams advance.

I'll never understand this kind of mentality. I could care less about another team. As a matter of fact I'd rather Arsenal pass because they play beautifully and have earned it. Not to mention Milan should have done some renovations last summer. I want Liverpool to win, because I hate Inter and everything they represent.

In other words ... there can only be one.

Well, I'm not saying it in a biased way. I just think that seeing as how Serie A seems to be dealing with negative things, I think Italian teams winning the Champions League would really help them. If Serie A was looked at like the EPL and had their reputation. I probably wouldn't care about other teams, advancing and would just want the team I support to advance.

I support all Italian clubs in Champions League. Excluding Lazio...for obvious reasons.

If Roma can keep a clean sheet in Rome, i think they will have a reat chance of going through. Real are in impressive form at the moment, while Roma are trying to get back into their form from a few months ago. We're going to need our defenders to have the game of their lives and Il Capitano to lead the charge up front.

I'm beginning to feel the nervous in the stomach already for this match...the Stadio O will go crazy with 80,000 fans cheering Roma.

If you care for the prosperity of the league as a whole, then of course you want all the Italian squads to do well. Winners always attract more money and better players for the league as a whole. Why did Pato choose Milan over the other big clubs in Europe?
I hate Roma, but I want you to do well in the CL because of this trickle effect. I think it would be great if Roma finally win something in Europe, giving hope to the other clubs in Serie A that it could happen and will most certainly be motivational in that respect.

It will be a very tough game at the bernebeau where real are very strong and have won all games this season at home. I am hoping our boys will get the job done but it will be extremely difficult so i would say 50-50 chance at the moment.

Last season against Lyon we did a great job at Gerland hopefully Totti will lead us to yet another good performance in Madrid where we normally play well

Personally i don't care abt the other teams. I especially dislike Inter so obviously i want them to lose against Liverpool. Lazio as well i will never cheer for. Milan normally has my support but they are against Arsenal so i hope they go out as well and ROma to take all the money from the quarter final stage :D

After the first leg I think we can play our cards here. Spalletti seemed to get the general tactic right. We played cautious and hit them on the break. A bit of luck that all our shots were on point that evening.

I would start Aquilani over Pizarro as he provides much much more defensively. One thing that really needs to be worked on is stopping their wingers. Robben made a fool of Panucci. He beat Cassetti too, but not as badly. We need to control them the way we did Ronaldo when we returned to Old Trafford.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing the other italian teams suffer horrible defeats, but that's just because of the two teams we're talking about. If the Viola or Palermo were in this competition I would pull for them over anyone else. It's a very italian mindset to cheer against other teams in the country when your team doesn't win.

Of course, I'm pulling for Arsenal because I have an agenda that involves Ancelotti getting fired, so he can come here.
