I would like to think so but the whole set up needs a major overall, including more friendlies so the team can play as a unit.

They could have qualified this time. They just had a bad draw and a couple of tough results due to late goals conceded.

Right now they should hope that CONCACAF sends 4 teams in 2006 and they all advance and do well. That might be enough to get them a full 4th spot.

There's also the possibility that more teams will be added but I'm against that.

Can't really see concacaf getting a fourth team other then the playoff route, but if Canada can regroup and the CSA make a much better effort to get the team to the World Cup in 2010 then anythings possible.

We are not in the top 6 in CONCACAF and perhaps not even in the top 10 at this point. With the present CSA in place, we have next to no chance of qualifying as they have slashed the current MNT budget to nothing. You'd be hard pressed to find any evidence of a MNT budget in 2004, but it is cut to about 1/2 that for the next year and onward. Too busy spending money on trying to build CFL stadiums.

We also don't have a very ggod manager or enough friendlies during the year for the team to play against other top Concacaf/World sides.Until the CSA gets the team playing more we might as well leave the players in Europe, where they will play regular football.

my friend there si a possibility that they might add 4 teams to the world cup for 2010, but if this should happen, they would only give a give a full spot the confederations that currenlty have a 1/2 spot. I mean Concacaf, Asia, Oceania and South America, the other 2 spots will probably be for South America and Europe.

Concacaf should not get more spots till the team start competing with the bigger nations. Mexico is the only nation that can hold their own with the big
boys of world soccer. The United States usually can get past the first round
or two of the world cup then struggle. Another Concacaf spot?, not quite yet.

My favourite is that Asia gets 4 1/2 spots.

China & SA were the embarrassments of the tourney and the two teams that showed they were completely out of their depth, but Asia's got the cash and Blatter wants it.

Outscored 23-0 if I am not mistaken. Take out Germany's 9-0 of SA an it's still
14-0 in 5 games. Joke, an absolute joke. Yet they get another 1/2 spot. Mr. Blatter following the cash and his own hypocrisy again.

Agreed,Asia don't deserve another spot either. South America should have
more, maybe at the expense of Europe to balance it out a little better.

Blatter gave SAmerica the Oceania playoff for a reason.

Don't get me wrong (geography, $$$ and a joke region hurts the Aussies) , but at the same time in typical English fashion (not a knock, if you are an English who isn't taken in by the media fan you have to know this is true) their talent is usually way over hyped.

    Kewell is waaaaayyyyyyy overrrratteeeedd.

Viduka is one tough SOB who I would take any day, and Cahill looks like he can be a keeper, but after that? Emerton slow as crap and most others I have seen wouldn't see an English field if it wasn't for The Commonwealth thing.

Yeah, the guy in Italy is OK and the guy at 1860 is a hack. Have seen him live twice.

Word is the SA's had a choice and requested the Aussies. No surprise there.

Play in an Asian cauldron or Central American jungle...or Australia.

That being said I am rooting for the Aussies as hard as a can. Just realistic.

Too busy trying to build CFL Stadium. You mean the Stadium that was required to bring the 2007YWC to Canada. The stadium that will be used to house Team Canada and provide a proper place for them to play. The Stadium that is so badly need to house an MLS Team. There is no proper stadium in all of Eastern Canada for Soccer and only Comenwealth in Edmonton in the west. I say this is the first step in helping Canada get on the right track.

The new Toronto stadium will be ggod for soccer in this area and country for years to come. The National sides (men & women's, youth,Olympic) the MLS which is coming no matter what the doom sayers out west think. Commonwealth is dead for soccer, to many empty seats, lets leave that stadium and province for a while till they start following the sport.

Can Canada qualify for the hexagonal in 2010?????

I don't know much about soccer in Canada or what their current line up is but I do know that they enjoyed a pretty decent run in last years World Youth Championship - which was held here in the UAE. I think they went all the way to the quarterfinals or something like that. Maybe if they can build on that team, they might have a chance. Right now they have to worry about getting into the hexagonal - let alone qualfying for the tournament itself.

CONCACAF will not get an extra spot, even if a team from here wins in 2006. The numbers crunch doesn't work out.

In fact, I think they may get rid of half-spots for 2010 (except maybe a playoff between Asia and Europe). Australia, err, Oceania, will finally get its automatic spot since it's only in South Africa (on an experimental basis) and Africa will get an extra spot so that there will still be 5 qualifiers.

The big thing is team preparation with more friendlies, but arranging that is always problematic. Player selection is a ancilliary problem that is dependent a lot on preparation, so the coach doesn't use the qualifiers (!) for exerimentation and development. Therefore, a definite "maybe".

A lot of US fans are hoping so, if only to have game at HDC where the crowd is actually pro-American. :)

Canada has one major fault as a national side right now
his name is Frank Yallop. This man should be out as manager of our national side. He poor line-ups cost us a lot of games this time round. Pat Onstad was terrible in the net for Canada and started letting in sloppy goals in the first game at home vs Guatemala and we went downhill fast since. As soon as Frank is let go we may have a chance to make progress. But if Frank is still in charge for the upcoming gold cup we will be out right away.

I'd be curious to hear from other Canucks, but I'd guess that this is an unpopular view.

Frank's only job as manager was at the San Jose Earthquakes, while he did
have some success there, that was still no reason for the CSA to hire him
when we had a better manager in Holger. There are other Canadian supporters that feel Frank has bothced this team and should go, but it's
not our decision, We can only wait till Canada bombs at the Gold Cup,then maybe the CSA will wake up to the fact they have the wrong man in charge.
