I couldn't ever dunk, and since I had left Hong Kong I lost all ability to shoot as well. Personally speaking, I preferred playing basketball with my friends in Hong Kong than at school, they weren't so brutally anal about the rules.
i never could shoot... but i always will attack the hoop with reckless abandon i've never heard of pick-up games being anal about rules... if there ain't blood (or close enough to it) there's no foul... other than that, it's the number of times you put the ball through the hoop the few people that call ticky tack are often left off the court regardless of talent, people just want to run... they don't want to bitch people always let me play cause i run around like a mad men incensed with the rage of a 1000 camels infested with fleas... so they think i'm good (soon do they learn otherwise)
When I was 17/18 I could get up high enough to dunk but couldn't palm the ball so it would always fly off when I tried. Now I'm happy if I get up enough to slam the ball into the front of the rim and fall backwards.
I have my arm cocked back like I'm shooting and the ball's just laying on my hand. The second I jump and try to bring the ball down it would go flying.
Can you dunk in a real game? I knew a few Black guys back in college who can dunk a basketball? But they could not do in a real game..... only in warm-ups where they had running distance. Having siad, I do not know any good basketball player. Actually, this is one of the things I dreamed to do.... i can bicyle-kicked a soccer in prctice(never tried in a game), but I knew that I can never dunk a basketball.
I'm white, 5'11, about 135 pounds and I've been able to dunk since I was 16. Did it a few times in actual competitive games in HS. Dunked over a guy once but got called for an offensive foul as my knee connected with his chest in a way that sent him flying into the stands. I also landed awkwardly on my ankle. Tried to do a reverse dunk in a game once, missed the rim and fell on my back. Lesson learned.
When I was in college, I could dunk for about 6 months. I'd spent the previous summer working out with three goalkeepers from my town who all played college soccer, and in addition to weights and goalkeeping drills, we'd also play about 2 hours of 2v2 sand volleyball (no beaches in west central Illinois) every day. Do that for a summer, and you'd be amazed at your vertical. I got four points off dunks in IM basketball that fall, but that was the last I played the game.
Sure I can and I'm 5'8". Anytime I can find an elementary school that has a 7 or 8 foot rim, I'm a dunking fool. Oh, did you mean a 10-foot rim? That's way too high for me
that's exactly how i found out i could dunk... from playing volleyball in college after a game one day... i went up with the volleyball (not thinking i could do it) and got it two handed with ease... naturally i grabbed the nearest basketball and started having fun
I am a pretty decent shooter from just inside the 3 point line. Oh and I have a bad ass bank shot too!
When I was in high school, Tim Thomas' school was in our division so we played them at least twice a year. We had a kid on our team (5'7", white) who dunked on him (Tim Thomas, 6'10", current NBA player) twice in one game. He also blocked him a few times in the games we played against them. Trust me, it was impressive.
I could dunk in high school and college and I am about 5' 11". Of course, I messed around dunking so much on concrete that my knees are shot. No more jumping for me.
