It is depressing to see Switzerland play with such energy against France while Portugal seemed stuck on third gear all tournament even when absolutely desperate.
I knew we lost this game as soon as we did the cuck knee. That first half was just pathetic. We were shit scared to even pass the half way like. Our possession was mostly us passing to our cbs
Wait. So Santos called up an injured Felix and actually gave him minutes despite him having a nagging ankle injury that required surgery and was known by everybody since November? Clubismo at it's finest. We had better options off the bench. Fire this f*ckin clown. https://www.marca.com/en/football/atletico-madrid/2021/06/28/60d9fdd9268e3e39718b458f.html
Who is Felix's adviser needed to tell him to get the surgery ASAP back in December instead of playing injured for half a year. So stupid, he would have recovered in time for the Euro with a few months to spare.
The sad part is there is no way to get rid of Santos. He will drag this team through the world cup passing the ball back on counters to allow the opposition to set up defensively and pass conservative until we have to give it to Rui who then launches it back to them and repeat. It's so depressing to watch what could be a great counter turn into a long dragged out goalie turn over.
I'm hoping this time around Santos realizes what needs to be done for this team to succeed for the WC... He needs to put these players in positions the are most comfortable at.
Precisely this. Watching the other R16 matches, I saw so many teams playing with urgency. Even if a team set up a bit defensive, they were quick and aggressive at something. They just all looked quicker, faster and more capable. Portugal doesn't seem to do anything with much intent. As frustrating and predictable as the loss to Belgium was, I understand that it was playing out as Portugal wanted/needed based on Santos' plan for nearly a half until Thorgan scored from nothing. But, of course, if he doesn't score that golazo, we would have seen a full 90-120 minutes of what we saw from Portugal for the first 41. Maybe they find a way to win 1-0 or in a shootout, but the first 41 minutes is what Santos wanted...and THAT is the problem.
