Well, it's that time of the year. Time to wildly speculate on NT callups months into the future, that is. Which rag-tag bunch of MLS hostages and Scandinavian exiles will gather in a run-down California suburb to capture our hearts this time? This very well could be the first camp of the 2014 cycle, so this roster will come with a little bit more intrigue. Here's what I'm thinking: FORWARDS Justin Braun (Chivas USA) Chris Rolfe (Aalborg) Robbie Findley (Real Salt Lake) Marcus Tracy (Aalborg) Steven Lenhart (Columbus Crew) Jesus Padilla (Chivas USA) MIDFIELDERS Alejandro Bedoya (Orebro) Dax McCarty (FC Dallas) Mikkel Diskerud (Stabaek) Austin da Luz (Red Bull New York) Geoff Cameron (Houston Dynamo) Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA) Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders) Sam Cronin (Toronto FC) DEFENDERS Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew) Heath Pearce (FC Dallas) Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy) Marvell Wynne (Colorado Rapids) Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA) Tim Ream (Red Bull New York) Ike Opara (San Jose Earthquakes) Kevin Alston (New England Revolution) Hunter Freeman (IK Start) GOALKEEPERS Chris Seitz (Philadelphia Union) Troy Perkins (DC United) Tyrel Lacey (Lyn Oslo)
I must be the only one who thinks Jesus Padilla is woefully inadequate. And if the USMNT can't do better than Justin Braun, then we're in bigger trouble than I thought. How about Pontius and Edson Buddle? By the way............yes this is too early. We need at least half of an MLS season to see which young players & rookies from MLS merit consideration. For instance, Omar Gonzalez and Chris Pontius last season.
This not so much a callup prediction as a prediction of who's going to be phased into the national team in the next year. If it's really against your ethics to have a thread like this too early, then don't post here and go talk about which Euro club Landon should sign with or who the coach should be in 2014 on some other thread. It's a god damn message board for crying out loud. I've had Braun pinned as a future NT target forward for a while now. I'm not sure how much of it has to do with his name being "Braun". I don't rate Pontius at all. Don't get what everyone else sees in him. I agree completely that the status quo will change frequently over the course of the season, but there's definitely some rookies that seem to be standing out early.
It's always time for wild speculation. This is BigSoccer afterall. In other news, my hypothetical-future wife I and I would like to invite you to our hypothetical-future home to celebrate our hypothetical-future son making the 2042 World Cup roster!
Didn't Padilla say something like he was insulted to be called in to the US U-23 camp and wants to play for Mexico? Or was that someone else?
Only Tim Ream will get called in. He will play all 11 positions at once, and soundly thrash Denmark's C-Team in a friendly, 3-0.
With the way he's played over the last several seasons........Jesus would be lucky to get a callup to Puerto Rico. So it couldn't possibly be him. (And, of course, there's hasn't been a U23 camp in two years.......and there's not even a U23 coach at the moment. So........)
The MLS season is only a week old, there are still several players who can step up and several players who can fall off. Toward the end of this season, we'll at least have an idea of who could be there. For argument's sake, though, let's just say we can make evaluations based on what we've seen so far. Mike Chabala is my dark horse candidate. He was impressive against FC Dallas, and can play with both feet--a right back or a left back, whatever is needed.
Guys we need to stop being sarcastic...Enough with the sarcastic crap. Its time to get serious. 39-Player Camp. FW: Fernando Torres (Liverpool) Didier Drogba (Chelsea) Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) Samuel Etoo (Inter Milan) Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Barcelona FC) Higuain (Real Madrid) Carlos Tevez( Manchester City) Pato (AC Milan) Adebayor (Manchester City) MF: Messi (Barcelona) Ronaldo (Real Madrid) Kaka (Real Madrid) Arshavin (Arsenal) Fabregas (Arsenal) Ribery (Bayern Munich) Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich) Xavi (Barcelona FC) Iniesta (Barcelona FC) Lampard (Chelsea FC) Michael Essien (Chelsea FC) Yaya Toure (Barcelona) Javier Mascherano (Liverpool) Ronaldainho (AC Milan) DF: Vidic (Manchester United) Rio Ferndinand (Manchester United) Puyol (Barcelona FC) Peter Lahm (Bayern Munich) Ashley Cole (Chelsea FC) Javier Zanetti (Inter Milan) Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid) Patrice Evra (Manchester United) Dani Alves (Barcelona FC) Gallas (Arsenal) Giorgio Chiellini (Juventes) GK: Howard (Everton) Brad Friedel (Aston Villa FC) Brad Guzan (Aston Villa FC) Marcus Hahnemann ( Wolverhampton FC) Kasey Keller (Seattle Sounders FC)
That's a pretty good list, #1 Feilhaber and Adu, but there is one glaring omission. Tim Ream. Otherwise, your list is spot on.
so is Tim Ream ascertaining Chuck Norris status, or will Chuck Norris never ascertain Tim Ream status
Has Real Madrid ever put in a 40m bid for Chuck Norris........ because they will be for Ream this summer.
