Yeah, looks like you're right about that. Perhaps I should have said "in any major European football league ever."
Forgot to mention….,Celtic will receive £5M from Spurs as compensation for Postecoglou. Not a bad piece of business as they will bolster their squad in hopes of a much stronger and improved European campaign.
It'll also be enough to cover the compensation for a top coach in another Tier 2 league for whom an Old Firm gig is a significant step up. Bodo-Glimt's Kjetil Knutsen is one name mentioned, but there will be other guys on their radar in places like the J-League, Scandinavia, mid-table in Holland or Belgium, etc. In fact, it'd probably be enough to pay the compensation and buy a decent young prospect squad/player with upside potential on top.
More names bring linked…… Farke is also being heavily linked to Leeds. 🇩🇪 | 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝 - 𝘿𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙚𝙡 𝙁𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚Celtic are 'very interested' in naming Daniel Farke as the successor to Ange Postecoglou.Initial talks have already been held with the former Norwich City, Krasnodar & Borussia Monchengladbach boss. Rumor that Tottenham want him back: https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sp...star-cameron-caeter-vickers-ange-postecoglou/
Mixed emotions as a Celtic supporter. I’m trying to look at from all angles. There are certainly things that check the box: familiarity with Spurs and Postecoglou, league, competition and the wages. But from a business perspective, if you’re the Spurs board, do you buy back a player you sold last year? They sold him for just under $8M and he’s currently valued, according to various websites, around $15-16M. Yeah, that’s chump change for an EPL a club but buying back a player you sold usually doesn’t work the second time around. Although, it just easily be argued it didn’t work the first time at Spurs. If I’m Celtic, I say sure.. you can have him but it will cost you $20M and I go from there. I want CCV to stay at Celtic for selfish reasons but I get the draw of Spurs, EPL, and working with Postecoglou again.
Not a great move. He's a solid CB but i don't see him as Top 6 CB quality. He's lateral movement isn't great and he can be a bit sloppy with the ball at his feet.
CC-V could be back in full training soon. Not in the squad for today's home friendly v. Wolves in Dublin, but his rehab seems faster than expected. Article says he could feature fairly early in new season. https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/spor...ed-major-cameron-carter-vickers-injury-boost/
Rehab is even faster than faster than expected - CCV gets the start against Athletic Bilbao in a friendly. Between the rehab and a 16 man bench, suspect his minutes will be limited. Testimonial match for James Forrest.
CCV is like the poster child for Moneyball biases. He is just a very effective CB. But people are used to the ways in which he gets the job done, and tall/fast players get more looks. To me he is our third CB right now.
<<It's been a tough start so far for Maik Nawrocki; he's been caugt lacking a couple of times in possession. He gives the ball away just as we hit the 20 minute mark, but Carter-Vickers gets across expertly to deny Inaki after his partner's lost ball. Inaki could've had three already!>> From a Daily Record matchtracker. Reads like Celtic played poorly in the first half to trail 2-1, with this the only CCV mention. Subbed off at half along with nine of his friends.
Started & went 90' in the season opener: 🟢 #CelticFC Flag Day Team News! ⚪️Here's how the Celts will line up against Ross County at Paradise 📋#CELROS | #cinchPrem | #COYBIG🍀 pic.twitter.com/JNEbYG21Ry— Celtic Football Club (@CelticFC) August 5, 2023 They won 4-2.
Considering CCV only had a limited number preseason games / minutes, I was actually surprised to see him start coming off his knee surgery. He played decently today. Most of pundits / publications have him rated 6.5-7. I tend agree with that. He looks a tad bit slow in his step but that’s to be expected. As he gets fitter the speed will ramp up. Celtic racked up a whopping 800+ passes, close to 400 in Ross County’s half with a 91% completion rate. As usually, CCV was excellent in possession.
Cameron Carter-Vickers felt a hamstring issue in the first half so was taken off as a precaution to not risk it any more than was needed. Hatate similar with his calf. Need to wait and see.— John McGinley (@jhnmcgnly) August 13, 2023 In a 3-1 win, CCV subbed off at half (they led 2-1) with a questionable hamstring. Let's hope it turns out to be precautionary. Against Aberdeen, for whom Dante Polvara played all 90 minutes.
They showed CCV on touch line without ice, without the hammy wrapped so… I consider that a good thing…. I think. Hopefully, he’s okay and Rodgers is being careful. It was the hammy on the same leg as his repaired knee. Hammies and quads are usually comprised and they may have played a part.
"Carter-Vickers went off halfway through Celtic’s recent league win over Aberdeen with a hamstring issue and the problem is worse than first feared." Expected out another 8 weeks, similar timeline for Nawrocki and Walsh, so Rodgers looking to sign new CB
