Former Liverpool striker Titi Camara has signed for Saudi Arabian league side Al Ittihad and will be expected to spearhead the Jeddah side’s attack during the forthcoming Arab Club Championship.
Camara, who has been on the books of English Premier League side West Ham United for the past three seasons, has signed a four-month contract worth a reported US$500,000 for Ittihad, who currently lead the Saudi league standings on goal difference from Al Qadisiya.
The 30-year-old Guinea international played for French sides St Etienne, Lens and Marseille before signing for Liverpool in 1999. He proved to be a crowd favourite during his only full season at Anfield in 1999-2000 when he scored 10 goals. He moved on to West Ham the following season but injuries limited his influence at the east London side.
Ittihad will be hoping that the signing of Camara will help to strengthen their bid for honours this season. They won the Asian Cup Winners’ Cup in 1999 and four of five Saudi league titles from 1997 to 2001 before being edged by Al Hilal for the championship and a spot in the inaugural AFC Champions League last year.
