Hey I'm putting together something with all seven Supporters Shield winners. I am trying to figure out what formation each team played and which players played where. I got all the players off MLSNET history section. If you remember any of the formations please go to the MLS Team Forums and post them in the team's individual board. I've posted the Fusion and Mutiny squads under Non-MLS cities. Thanks in advance to any fanatics out there.
Re: Re: Calling all MLS Historians I know, but some may argue it doesn't really exist now. I'm still interested in the teams at the top of the table at the end of the season.
Re: Re: Re: Calling all MLS Historians Who says it doesn't exist now? It was even presented at the MLS Awards Gala. As far as the first coupla years, those were awarded retroactively. (photos by Wade Jackson/YCJ)
This didnt get posted in my board, but if it did I'd close it for not being relavent. That said, here's KCs 2002 lineup Meola Garcia-Vermes-Prideaux McKeon-Zavagnin Klein-Preki-Henderson Johnston-Molnar Johnston was the only question mark for the season, Chris Brown filled in for him for the most part. Gomez also started some matches.
And Gary Glasgow deputized for Miklos while he was at Euro2000 and recuperating from his injuries sustained there. After Gary went down, Ihor Dotsenko filled in for a few games - including the boringest game in MLS history: KC@MET (not the Lothar armband throwing game, the other one) where Matt McKeon played forward in the second half.
SOme fun memories. Mutiny '96 - main lineup (off the top of my head) Dougherty in goal. Kooiman - right and center back Yallop - center back Backman/Hejduk - right back Pittman - left back McKinley - left mid/d-mid Wise - left mid Vasquez - d-mid Raltson - right mid Valderrama - O-mid Gorun Hunjak - O-mid Lassiter - Forward Galderisi - forward When Valderrama was away with Colombia, Scorin' Gorin Hunjak was often in the O-mid spot. They played together, too. Olympians Hejduk and Nelson Vargas (forward) also got plenty of time once they joined the team. I believe the Mutiny won its final 6 or 7 regular season games, which made gave them the "shield." This team had big-time personality. When they lined up Kooiman, Yallop, Pittman, McKinley and Vasquez at the same time, there was some serious tackling going on. Too bad the group was systematically dismantled starting in the middle of 1997.
