Toppi gets another merci-deadline until the next game, but behind the scenes the situation is getting hot for the first time. A nice article: Now Klaus Toppmöller and Reiner Calmund are attacking another. Reason is the announcement of the Bayer GM to only play with the second team in the Champions League to keep the top players in shape for the existence fight in the Bundesliga. Calmund: "I don't care for the Champions League anymore. There the order is coming from above. And then Bernd Schneider won't play the sixth game within two weeks." Does Toppmöller listen to the command? Don't think about it! The luck-less Bayer Coach is going on confrontation-course to Calmund: "I'm determining who plays, that's part of my contract. Since my time in Frankfurt I always enter this clause. Also Calmund won't talk someone into my team, there's no discussion about it". Toppmöller is looking relaxed to the crisis meeting. "I will go to the offence in these talks. That's what's running at the moment, are all no clear confessions", said he pointing on missing support of the club. That's outraging Calmund. "What, please? We just won one of the last eight Bundesliga games, we just won two of ten home games - do you think you're carried through the town and thrown into the air and carried through Leverkusen on someone's shoulders? Our Coach still is Klaus Toppmöller. This is our confession. I swear by the life of my children that we haven't talked with any other coach yet". As Toppmöller was talking about a "little crisis" after the loss and announced that Bayer won't relegate, Calmund was outraged again. His counter attack: "First Toppi wanted to play for rank 3. Then for rank 7. Then he announced that we'll be the team of the second season half. And now that we don't relegate. Toppi was always wrong with his prognosis." === Some other statement that's coming to my mind was after Toppi defended himself with success in the other competitions. Calmund said about it: "We needed the penalty shootout against an untrained D3 team and in the Champions League we won three and lost five games - this are no successful stats." Furthermore he was asked if he is thankful. Calli got angry on this question and said that he isn't thankful at all regarding Toppi. He's caring about the club and the workers, whose existence is depending on the club and who'll have to be fired in case of a relegation - Toppi would fall very safe with a good financial compensation, there is no mourning necessary for him. Calli mentioned that Toppi is only in office as there was some progress in Bochum. Also, he did not hear the fans demand to fire Toppi, something he also cares about (what is a joke IMO - I never shout against my team during a game as this doesn't help them, but this doesn't mean that I'm satisfied with what's going on).
Alot BS if you ask me let Toppi coach or get rid of him. Losing can be a bad habit if you let it and just letting the CL matches run there course and give up is just feeding that habit IMO. Hopefully Toppi can get a win or two in this group, get Bayer some much needed confidence and go from there. Also why doesn't Toppi play his backup goalkeeper more rather than Butt cause he is just awful this year ? (Im uninformed 80/)
I don't see how he doesn't get the axe after this one. I was at the game, and Leverkusen just didn't show up to play, they just aren't playing under Toppi, they need someone new to come in and light a fire under them. Ramelow was getting whistled everytime he touched the ball until he was pulled at halftime. Both of the goals were a combination of the same two things: Salou being much faster than the Bayer defense (they didn't seem to even want to catch him), and Butt just not positioning himself well. Ridiculious.
