You might be seeing the #womeninFIFA hashtag on twitter as athletes are signing an open letter to FIFA in advance of the FIFA Reform Committee's meeting on Nov. 19. You can see the open letter with all of the signees here where the athletes are asking for 30% of the roles in the FIFA ExCo to be filled by women. Foudy's letter on the same topic is on ESPNW. Guardian article on the topic.
Well said by Moya Dodd in a NYT opinion piece: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/20/opinion/fifa-needs-more-women.html?_r=1
Moya Dodd was one of the speakers at the media briefing on the FIFA ExCo meeting on reform. The reform proposals include one female representative from each confederation elected as a FIFA council member. Fifa ExCo member Moya Dodd speaking about #WomeninFIFA. Describes the “legacy of exclusion” she wants to change.— Ben Rumsby (@ben_rumsby) December 3, 2015 Media briefing: EDIT: More info on other reform proposals here and here.
It is worded to say "no less than one" so in theory, it could be more. Right now, the difference would be: Present FIFA council female to male ratio: 1/25 (4%) Proposed FIFA council ratio: 6/36 (16.7%)
Ratio and fraction.... When discussing ratios, the proper RATIO notation for the proposed makeup of the board would be expressed as 6:30 or 6/30, depending where and when you learned maths. That's 1:5 or 20%. Women would have 20% of the voting power men would have. ( not to be confused with the fraction 6/36) http://www.dr-aart.nl/Arithmetic-ratios.html More importantly, The one female per confederation proposal makes the representation in each confederation different, and makes UEFA THE MOST BACKWARD with respect to mandated gender ratios. Male: female RATIOS By confederation: COMNEBOL 1:4 AFC 1:6 UEFA 1:8 CAF 1:6 CONCACAF 1:4 OFC 1:2 (New world vs old world?) It would seem more equitable to require two female members from UEFA. There doesn't seem to be any requirement that any of the Vice Presidents ( 8 total) be female. Uefa gets 3 vp's Two female members from UEFA with at least 1 vp being female?
The "2 Drunk Fans" podcast recorded Moya Dodd's media call at the NSCAA convention. She speaks on the need for diversity in FIFA, women in coaching, the development of the women's game and FIFA's role in that (including a club world cup), reform in FIFA, and more. This is good stuff; its not the cleanest recording but worth the listen: https://soundcloud.com/2drunkfans/moya-dodd-nscaa
