I hereby lodge a request for another event with Ray Hudson at a watering hole. The event at The Rock last year was really wonderful, and I think we should make it a pre-season tradition. Okay, who's with me?!!
i concure,, but i cant drive up there, so ill send a cardboard picture of me alright.... just prop it up on a bar stool
I had to miss the last one, so I highly recommend we make it at an accessible time, such as Saturday afternoon. I would very much like to attend. -Tron
Great idea Eric, I'll run it by Steve Zack next week. Seeing how The Rock is no longer, any suggestions for a site?
When the Petke/Pope deal happened I raised the idea with Stephen Zack and he seemed receptive to it. It was sort of assumed that we would wait until the season gets closer to starting and the roster is finalized.
Oh, I definitely think it should wait until closer to the season, I just wanted to get the engine started. As far as locations, how about something in Baltimore? ...kidding. How about Fado, it's centrally located and metro-accessible.
I can think of a number of places. Fado might be a bit cramped. The Lucky has that little stage-like area in the back room, from which Ray can emit his pearls of wisdom upon ourselves. Also, there's Fast Eddie's on K Street, which has a pool room and separate bar upstairs, which can be booked. Never mind what goes on in the basement... -G. Finding a location is difficult because United brass understandably don't want to compete with televisions as distractions or draws that give other reasons for fans to be in there. It's just too distracting. That rules out Lucky Bar and Fado's. Keep the ideas coming. Private room with little or no charge but taps flowing and central location is what we're after. Should almost certainly be in DC (as opposed to Virginia or Maryland). Closed circuit satellite feed to Baltimore for Eric is always under consideration.
Highly unlikely about Summers - too many TVs, distractions, and it's in Virginia. Gordon Birsch is a better prospect.
How about one of those rooms at the Brickskeller? They certainly would leave us to ourselves... dadman
I've spoken to Steven Zack about it. How would people feel about doing it on a Saturday afternoon instead of a weeknight? Sometime in late Feb. or early March? Edited to note: Possible locations at this point include The Reef in Adams Morgan or Bistro Europa in Old Town Alexandria. Sachin
A Saturday afternoon would be great, though the venue would have to be quite large as a bigger than normal turnout should be expected.
If it's in Old Town on a Saturday afternoon, I'm there. I work in Old Town on Saturdays, and could steal away for an hour or so ...
How many people are we talking about? There were something like 100 or so at the Rock last year. Sachin
Oh!! I wasn't at The Rock last year and had no idea that many showed up. I went to the Q&A when we had about 20 show up on a weeknight. So 100 sounds about right, my bad...
DCU had a viewing party last year at Georgetown Station on M St. They reserved the whole upper room. Very nice. The Bartendress was outta this world.
I'll put that on the list of places to contact. I'm trying to find a place that won't charge us to use a room, so that puts most sports bars out of the running. I'm open to any and all suggestions. Sachin
Make sure suggestions are at least accessible to Metro (a reasonable walking distance). Yeah, Chico, that gal's semi-outfit was quite nice! GM
