Does california have too many teams in every sport?

Thier are 30 somthing NFL teams and about 5 of them are in Ca thier are 48 states on the mainland for god sake it hardly seems fair. The same with basketball I cannot even count the amount of them there are. Even in soccer 10 teams I think 3 of them are in Ca.

Heres the teams me as a brit can name in Ca

    NFL
    Oakland raiders.
    San Fran 49'ers
    San diego chargers.
and probaly more but 3 is too many.

    NBA
    Lakers
    clippers
    warriors
and i'm pretty sure thiers more of them.

    MLB
    Giants
    A's
and I don't really know any baseball teams.

    MLS
    Galaxy
    Earthquakes.

etc see my point thier are major citys outside of Ca with no teams.

Don't forget the Dodgers, Angels and Padres (baseball), the Sacramento Kings (NBA), and the hockey teams, Sharks Kings and Ducks.

This is either a pathetic attempt at trolling or you are immensely ignorant about the size and population of California. In size, population, and wealth, it would be an impresssive country.

If there was a single state on the East coast the size of California it would extend from Boston to North Carolina and would have many more teams than California does.

Here's a serious response to a joke of a thread.

According to the 2000 census, California's population is 34,501,130, roughly 12% of US population (284,796,887).
Each of the big 4 sports leagues has around 30 teams and 3 or 4 franchises in California.
12% of 30 is 3.6, so unless we can find a way to place part of a team in California and the rest elsewhere (I'm thinking Lake Tahoe area might be nice?), the state has just about the right number of sports franchises.

Now, look at England. It's neither as populous nor large as California, yet it boasts 20 Premiership clubs! And we're not even counting Div 1,2 and 3! Oh, the injustice!

Nope, that's it. The St. Louis Rams used to be in LA, but that was 5 or so years ago.

That sounds about right to me. The Bay Area (both Oakland and SF) is the 5th largest metro area in the United States, and San Deigo has over a million people in the city alone. Considering that LA is the 2nd largest metro area in the US, it's amazing they don't have a team, other than the fact that Los Angelities don't care for football that much. 3 football teams in California is not many, and they could handle another one without any problem.

    NBA
    Lakers
    clippers
    warriors
and i'm pretty sure thiers more of them.

Yup, one more, the Sacramento Kings. Again, the Sacramento metro area is fairly large, a couple million people or so, so it's not surprising they don't have a basketball team. San Deigo is large enough to have one, and the Clippers used to play there, but they don't now.

    MLB
    Giants
    A's
and I don't really know any baseball teams.[/i]

There's the Anaheim Angels (a city in the LA metro area), who won the World Series last year, and the LA Dodgers, and the San Deigo Padres. California doesn't need any more baseball teams, but for the amount of people there, 5 isn't that much.

    MLS
    Galaxy
    Earthquakes.

Any place that can support an MLS team is deserving, regardless of where they are located.

etc see my point thier are major citys outside of Ca with no teams.

Not really. I believe the largest cities that don't have any pro sports teams is the Oklahoma City metro area, and Virginia Beach/Norfolk/Newport News, Virginia. For whatever reason, teams haven't found it economically feasable to go to those areas. Then again, population isn't always everything. The Salt Lake City metro area isn't huge, but the Jazz (an NBA team) do well there, because they are the only sport in town. Same with Portland and the Trailblazers (another NBA team).

California is freaking huge, and contians about a 3rd of the population west of the Mississippi river (California and Texas contain like half the west of the Mississippi population).

    Re: Re: california

Actually, the population of England is much more than California. The population of the UK is something like 60 million, and nobody really lives in Scotland or Wales or Northern Ireland -- well, seriously, England is about 50 million of the 60 million in the UK. And England is only about the size of Alabama. They're packed in over there.

The Bay Area has 4 million people, and a better soccer team than LA, actually, the blue and Black team were the first to bring Cali the coveted MLS Cup!

The 9ers have the most Super Bowls, we got 5 on it!

I would kill for an hour of GK lessons from Mark :D If just to learn how to get that goalkeeper "stare" that he has ;)

He was the man though. Hope he's doing well out there!

Is it UC-Sta. Clara or UC-Sta. Cruz that are nicknamed the Banana Slugs?

Look my point is not on population, but over spreading out the teams for the interest of the public you got all these teams crammed up in 1 small space forget how over populated it is. And then you live in place x and it 50 miles to the nearest pro stadium.
