Which makes no sense, because Orange County residents I've known tell me that Orange County HATES being associated with Los Angeles. They're proud to NOT be LA. And they hate it when the rest of us lump them in with LA proper.

Horrible name, not just that but this roll out (or lack there of). Really interested to see how they will market "California United" at Titan Stadium. With roughly 6 months to go, I am assuming they are going to low ball it the first season and then grow their fan base? In the interview, Collins said they didn't want to "dismiss" people in Garden Grove, Fullerton, Irvine, etc....um hello, I am pretty sure Anaheim Ducks, LA Angels of Anaheim fans come from all over the area, just like any other sports team. I just don't like in this particular case using a state name, California. They should have called Anaheim home base and build it from there.

I wouldn't be surprised if California United FC looks a whole lot like a professionalized version of the 2012 Cal FC team by next year. Wynalda as coach, several of the same players, along with new faces of course.

Terrible name. I'll still go check out a game, but that name is lazy and uninspired.

Very quiet about this team since the announcement of the name. They have all the relevant social media channels but no updates. Can't help but wonder if a part of NASL's problem getting D2 sanctioning is that in addition to Deltas demise, Californina United won't be ready for the 2018 season?

Or they're reconsidering their misadventure before they blow too much cash...

I mean given NASL's issues, there's not much to get excited about. They've been relegated to D3 before playing a game. And their only exciting news is that their new league is suing the USSF. And to top it off Cal United have no where to play if NASL folds since USL won't have them for obvious reasons.

They also have the Delta's fine example last year of ignoring all of the problems with the league and walking into the firestorm while whistiling happily. Not a great move.

Have the Deltas joined Rayo OKC yet?

    Good Lord...

Given that they played ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT...I'd say no, not yet.

With Eric Wynalda probably running for USSF president most likely he will not coach CTD.

I would expect Cal United to fold. They’re clearly not exploring UsL for obvious reasons (OCSC). And it’s looking like NASL is dead even if the court rules in their favor with at beat 3 other teams left (barring any further defections). And NPSL is not an option for a true pro team.

1904 FC General Manager Alex Gontran on Facebook says:

    1) the group approached the USL before moving to the NASL
    2) are in a "process" to join USL for 2019
    3) have a plan is for its player-owners to eventually play for club
    4) have no players right now, close to signing 2 or 3

That’s not what I’m hearing. Things can change, obviously, but they will have a UPSL team this year and I would not be surprised to see them play professionally in 2019.

I honestly don’t know as we sit here today how many league options there will be for professional teams come 2019. But I’m told they do not intend to fold.

Fair enough. I just have a hard time thinking it’s USL with OC already having an underperforming USL side.

Inland Empire in either USL or USLD3 would make a hell of a lot of sense.

USL D3 in Inland Empire is mostly likely from what I heard from those close to the group. Officially not yet decided however.
