Can David James really be the best goalkeeper in England? How can a country as football mad as England--see, "football," for all you soccer-phobes, --not have one starting goalie in the top half of your league?
Very little home grown goal keeping talent at the moment im affraid. Most top level keepers in the premiership are from abroad. Something needs to be done at the youth level to rectify this
I agree, David James is rubbish. He's a great athlete, but not a leader at the back and completely unreliable. If Liverpool's Chris Kirkland had stayed healthy the past 2 years I think there would have been a real battle for the #1 shirt. He looks to be the future if he can ever get a run of games in. Paul Robinson is still young and has potential to be a top keeper, but he's not there now. God knows he's gotten a lot of work at Leeds, and that looks to continue for him next year at Spurs. Robert Green at Norwich will be another English starter in the Premiership next year as well, though I have no idea how good he is (the only time I saw him was in the Keown Testimonial). And who knows, maybe Stuart Taylor will be starting in the Premiership next year. Latest rumours have him headed to Portsmouth on loan. Other than that, there's not much out there. Richard Wright and Nigel Martyn are the only other names that come to mind, and neither of those guys are gonna solve the problem.
I've heard rumours of this ilk, but im not sure if or how it will happen. I just wish Shay Givens parents had had the common decency to give birth to him in England
Most Italians are incredibly patriotic. I couldn't see one playing for anyone but Italy, especially with the emphasis they place on football there.
