Group phase first matches: GROUP A: Bechem Chelsea (Ghana) - Al Zamalek (Egypt) 3:2 29' , 47', 91' Emmanuel Clottey - 21', 34' Abdoulaye Cisse The Group of Death just got deadlier with group outsiders Bechem playing some riveting attacking football, which players like Solomon Asante, Gladson Awako, Ibrahim Issaka and hattrick hero Emmanuel Clottey firing up the pitch. Overran El Zamalek, but went behind twice due to some atrocious defending. Watched this game and honestly the quality of attacking football was top notch with passing by Berekum Chelsea good enough to warrant the 'Chelsea' part of their name. Solomon Asante and Emmanuel Clottey are Black Stars material. Emmanuel Clottey has now scored 9 goals in the competition. Just to note: The group also features Egypt heavyweights Al Ahly and African-dominant TP Mazembe. GROUP B: ASO Chlef (Algeria) - E.S. Sahel (Tunisia) 0:1 7' Ahmen Belaid
I'm planning to watch the Ahly game today. Can't wait to see them in action... and I really, really can't wait until Ahly and Zamalek go head-to-head!
TP Mazembe has won Al Ahly 2-0 in his home so TP Mazembe on top of the Group al ahly need to win the next match and Mazembe loses from Chelsea to be on top of the Group B Results : TP Mazembe : 10 points (to semi final ) Al Ahly : 10 points (to semi final) Chelsea : 6 points (good luck) El Zamalek : 1 poor point (why play football ? ) Go ahly go to the forward you are the best team in africa Fel talta shmal ;D
Soooo this thread went silent, didn't it? Ahly won the CAF final and moved on to the Club World Cup. They won their first game this morning 2-1 and will face the South American champs on Wednesday. I think that one may be tougher.
I need to post on here more regularly. Did cover the CAF CL on the football blog I run - I don't like to whore out the pieces, makes me feel like a ...whore, but you'll find it all on my site! Thought Al Ahly were the best attacking team in this year's CL, so in that respect they did deserve to win it. I felt Esperance were more complete, but Msakni's surgery really cost them in the final - he was rushed back for the 2nd leg, didn't quite play with the same mojo. TP Mazembe badly need a playmaker, but really enjoyed watching their games, especially in Lubumbashi - what a crowd!
