First off, Cablevision has not yet implemented the InDemand package MLS DirectKick, formerly known as MLS Shootout. The season's start is only a couple of days away. What are they waiting for? Do we have to mount a phone-in campaign like we did last year? Second, due to the arbitrators ruling in the YES/Cablevision dispute, Cablevision has moved 3 sports channels MLS/FSNY/YES from its premium tier to Family cable. What it means in dollars and cents is that the $45 package (Family cable) will now carry the above mentioned channels. In the past you had to get at the least the $77 package (IO Silver- no relation to the Lone Ranger). This clearly means that more households will have access to Metros on MLS and ManU on YES. And it also means that if you are NOT interested in Fox Sports World and/or the MLS Direct Kick package, you can save $32 per month by going to Family cable from premium cable to get MLS/FSNY/YES.
Anyone knows if Metrostars games will be broadcast on HDTV? I'm thinking about switching to IO Digital from Cablevision. Right know you can watch Knicks & Mets on HDTV. If they show the Metros, I'll switch tomorrow.
Good Question. HDNet has scheduled 5 Metrostars games but CV doesn't carry it. My guess is it depends on whether or not there are HD cameras at GS; will any NFL games be carried in HD? OTOH, since HDNet WILL be broadcasting at least one of those matches from GS, chances are it does have the equipment. Does anyone know if we can order the Euro 2004 package on Cablevision? I hate them. First I can't get the NFL Direct Ticket package and now this. I really really wish I could get Direct TV.
NFL Sunday Ticket is exclusively on DirectTV per agreement with the NFL. Cablevision couldn't offer it even if they wanted to (which they surely would if they could).
Just got an email from the MLS league office regarding the best way to get the attention of various cable companies regarding the MLS Direct Kick package: The best way to try to activate MLS Direct Kick in your local areas is to submit e-mails to sports@indemand.com explaining your interest (or complaint) and providing your name, address and phone number. Such feedback may encourage local affiliates to pick up Direct Kick on the new transponder. If not, you're right; DirecTV and Dish Network are alternatives.
Until 2006. Any additional carrier would have to be approved by the networks until then. You can bet Comcast and Cablevision will offer NFL Sunday Ticket after that because the new TV deal will not give the networks such veto power.
