Just looking for a bit of info on the C League. Does anyone have a good web site for CLeague info. I remember seeing a while ago that there was a YA in China. But what is the level of play like, better than JLeague? How many clubs in the C1 and the C2 are there more professional divisions there? What are the salaries like? Is it true that the teams all live together in dormitories? Can you imagine Gazza on the top bunk!! When does the season begin?
Thanks in advance for all info!!

    try http://www.sinosoc.com

Top players in Jia A makes upwards to about 1 million Yuan (~$125,000 US) a year. Foreign players like Jorg Albertz, Saul Martinez, Jankovic, etc may make more than that.

The season just got started. Right now preliminary FA cup matches are being played.

I think just a few clubs have dorms for their players.

Whether or not C league is equal or better than J League is open to debate. Most will tell you that it's behind both J and K league. But I'd say the C league is getting better each day, and if it has not surpass the J League, it will be in the near future. Both Dalian Shide and Shanghai SVA, legit contenders for the league championship, have very young squads. Most of their starters are under 25. On the other hand, if you look at a J League squad like Kashima Antlers, most of their starters are over 25. So the future looks bright for these C league teams.

Also, you may want to check the progress for Dalian Shide and Shanghai SVA in the Asian Champions League, which is currently taking place. Both teams have a chance of advancing to the semi-finals.

-- There were no YA in China. Geraldo Lazada, former of LA Galaxy and Settle Sounders, spent some time in the Chinese league, but he played mostly in Hong Kong(a different league). I had no idea what team. They had targeted Wynalda and Berthalter in the past. Nothing came out of it. They had a few ex-MLSers. Saul Martinez of Miami Fusion is now with Shanghai Shenhua. Cate of NE Revolution was there last year. The ex-Everton striker with KC also played there. There were a few Canadians in the lower divison.

-- The level of play is poor. Dalian Shide would be near the top of J-League if it plays there. The other teams are all sh8t.

-- The foreign and the top Chinese players made 6 figure(US dollars). Jorge Albertz reportedly made half a million. The press doubted the figure since Hamburgh paid him double that. Why would he move to China for lower salary? I heard some bench player made a little as USD50 per month.

-- 15 clubs in Jia A(C1). 14 in Jia B. I do not know anything under that.

-- The season will start this weekend.

-- dormitories?? Probably, but don't know. Gazza as a foreign player gets special status. He probably stays in a hotel.

I think he left. I posted a thread at the Canadian forum. A few years ago, two other Canadians were in China.

I think this was in the mid 90s, but I can't remember who they were. I would like to say Eddy Berdusco was one of the players....

One of them was the guy who scored against Brazil many years ago. I remembered reading an article about him in China. You have posted here long, time ago. Another one is a Black player who played briefly for a Hong Kong club.

The only black player I can think of is Alex Bunbury, formerly of Maritimo of the Portugese league.

He only picked up a few caps for Canada. So he cannot be Bunley. He was released after a few games in HK.

Thanks for all the info guys? Alex Bunbury never played in China. He was with Maritimo then finished his career with KC but, was plagued by injury. He lives in MN now with his family. Played golf with him a few months ago..nice guy, hes trying to start his own academy in the Minneapolis area.

What Canadians are in China now? Are most in the Jia B? I was suprised to see how much Gazza was getting paid in the Jia B! Are there foreign limits in the Jia A and the B? Thanks again for the info all. Im only asking because i have been offered trials there and pondering that or the A-League.

-- I don't know of any Canadians in China right now. Tony Menezes has left his Jia B club. Eddy Berdusco used to play in China about three years ago. I think he was playing in lower than Jia B.

-- Geraldo Laterza is the only American that I know of played in China. He played about 3 games for LA Galaxy. He has a brief career with Settle Sounders. I think he was in Jia B or lower. Arley Palacios, formerly of Metrostars and Miami Fusion, actually played in Jia B last season. Bobby Houghton, who coached the Rapids in 1996, coached in Jia B as well.

    -- Jia A has 4 foreign player limit. I don't know about Jia B.

-- The Chinese clubs have been offering a lot of trials to players around the world.

-- As for yourself, if you think that you can go beyond A-League or above, you might want to stay in A-League and wait for a bigger break. Having said that, if the money is good and you do not mind living in a foreign culture, why not??? May be you become Gazza"s best friend and he found you a job with EPL club.

U know Alex? He was a pretty good player during his prime years. Glad to see him all relaxed and playing golf in MN. All the best to him and his academy.

I've no idea about Canadians playing in China. AFAIK, there isn't any Canucks playing in Jia A. Don't know about Jia B or lower though.

Jia A is getting more competitve, because this season the foreign players are of high quality. If a Jia A club is giving you a trial, then by all means give it a try. The salary there should be higher than A-League's, plus a dollar in China can buy you more things than a dollar in US. Jia B's foreign players are much less competitive, so you might as well will have a much better chance of getting signed there.

    Good luck!!
