Fixed the title (Sporting should be after Nacional, as they are on the road ) and added my usual tidbits of info that more than likely no-one cares about, except for me Game is more than likely to be played on September 9, as Sporting has a CL match against Inter on the 12th. Not the greatest of locales for Sporting in recent years. The club has lost its last 2 matches at Funchal, and have not won since the 1990/91 season. Will definately be a tough match...
I have a good feeling about Sporting winning this match. Paulo Bento has proved us twice that we can come back when losing. Example- the Sporting Braga pre-season match. Also yesterday, went from losing 1-0 to a win of 3-2..I think that sporting is much stronger and we have a great coach that makes great sub decisions. FORCA SPORTING VAMOS SER CAMPEOES! 06/07
lets put it this way: theres nothing relying on this game as compared to the other games where sporting had to face nacional in funchal(usually in the 2nd match). so i say take this match easy, dont do anything stupid and do kill yourself for a win. -Matt
Here is the squad called by Paulo Bento for the match in Madeira: Guarda-redes: Ricardo e Tiago Defesas: Polga, Ronny, Caneira, Tonel, Miguel Veloso, Abel, Miguel Garcia Médios: Tello, Nani, João Moutinho, Romagnoli, João Alves, Yannick Pupo Avançados: Liedson, Bueno, Alecsandro Custódio, Carlos Martins , Farnerud and Paredes are all injured, and Djaló is serving the second game of a two-match ban. Biggest surprise has to be the call-up of Yannick Pupo, an 18 year-old Brazilian midfielder. I haven't heard of him - anyone have any insight on him?
Two yellows in is last years match with Casa Pia. Moutinho will be the a holding mid, and will probably play Nani from the start. El Pipi will start as a number 10, and Tello, on the left mid, and Nani on the right, and Bueno, and Liedson up front. Or maybe he'll move Miguel Veloso into the DM role, and leave Tello out. Miguel had played that role role many times in the juniors, and PB is probably comfortable with him there.
Veloso has played at "Inside Left" before and held his own. Same with Ronny who has played "Inside Right" and held his own too. So Bento has some options available to confuse Nacional.
