Busio starting strong. Wins a header in midfield despite being undercut, breaks up a pass into the defensive box.
Honestly I think Venezia are pretty good. They can certainly pass the ball around and put it in dangerous or semi-dangerous positions.
Good anticipation passing lane steal by Busio starts an attack, but leads to a shot 20 feet over the crossbar.
Busio is keeping things ticking nicely, announcer notes (over here). he's very good so far, simple and smart
I can't really believe that Gianluca Busio, a 19 year old American, just transferred to a Serie A* side and is immediately starting in the center of their midfield.
And what's surprising is how comfortable he is there. Udinese are pretty decent, easily the best team he's ever started against. He's super calm, making both simple and aggressive passes, and being positionally disciplined, as a deep lying playmaker. Seems having that Gold Cup experience was really big for him, because he came out of it a FAR better player
His effectiveness doesn't seem to be lessened by the step up in competition, at least so far. He's been at worst average for the squad so far this match - it's his back line who have struggled to keep possession.
In terms of role fullfillment he's been almost perfect. He lost a 1v1 duel but that's about the only negative I've seen, and his passing has been spot on.
My main criticism so far would be a lack of chemistry with Cmigoj - they keep making themselves available for passes in the same spot, canceling one another out.
Figured Udinese would get a goal on the counter. Vinezia are actually pretty good centrally and out wide in the attack/midfield, but their backline is simply atrocious and they have nothing in the attack up the gut
Down 1-0. Play started with Cmigoj missing a bouncing ball under no pressure in the middle of the field, don't know what the hell that was. No Busio content on the play except chasing down the counterattack.
Busio a has been playing it safe in this first half. Doesn’t help that Udinese is completely content to sit behind the ball and then counter attack when a turnover happens.
Busio the main man on set pieces so far, but he needs to up the quality of his delivery if he wants to stay in that role.
Busio with some nice defending in the box. Close to a PK though. Mostly this team's CBs and strikers have no business at this level
