What I really can't believe is that, on this issue, Bush sat there and told Charlie Gibson he disagreed with his own platform. Disagreeing with the platform of your own re-election campaign? Does it get any flippitier or floppitier than that?
Yeah, Bush is a flip-flopper but what does he care? His own base has no idea what he stands for and what his policies really are (see superdave's thread about the study that shows this) and when you tell tell them they retreat into abject denial. And what are they gonna do anyway? Vote Dem? Ha ha ha ha. By continuing to support Bush despite his record in office, they've already proven they value the 'correct' party label over their own prosperity and over the security of their own country.
It's not "his" platform. The delegates make the platform. IIRC, his dad was even more out of step with the platform in '92, when the Buchananites and Pat Robertson followers crafted a wacko-right platform.
