Is there really any difference between Burn 2004 and Burn 2003? We leak goals at a slightly lower rate but still cannot score goals. Since two of the coaches were on the coaching staff last year, maybe it is time for them to do something different because whatever they are doing is obviously not working.

    Again a spoiler...

[result] LA 3 - 1 Dal Ronnie O gets his first - but within a minute of the restart Kirovski heads - but looks like another Jolley Own Goal. UN-freaking-BELIEVABLE. We get the freaking goal and IMMEDIATELY give up the third. AGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Galaxy announcer says that Saragosa was offside on the Galaxy goal - should have been disallowed. Kiro gets credit on the goal. [/result]

    Salyer off - Nhlecko on.
Davis off - Quill on. Brad not happy apparently. I'm confused by this. ?!?

Quill misses sitter on first touch.

    Herzog off - Broome on.
    Moreno off - Ngwenya on.

Haven't heard a minute in a while but this one's got to be about over.

Okay - minute 85'. Looks like this thing is about wrapped up.

    Well that's it.

[result] Penalty in stoppage - Jolley brings down Ngwenya. Kiro buries penalty.

    LA 4 - 1 Dal

    Victorine
    Jolley (og)
    OBrien
    Kirovski
    Kirovski

That's 4 in a row? Wow. Opposite of the Crew. Defense sounded brutal. A couple of good chances from Davis and O'Brien and the Quill sitter - but little else. From the Galaxy radio - sounded like we were soundly beaten.

    Frusterating. [/result]

I've got to say I'm stunned at how quickly this team has swirled down the toilet. Besides the poor play in goal, defense, midfield and forward, I think it's time to add coaching to the list of reasons this team deserves its spot at the bottom of the standings. The team just plays like a collection of individuals. I don't see any team concept or organization at all.

Expect another blowout next week in NY.

Re: Burn v Galaxy: Official Game Thread

Again I ask, what happened to the players who were hell bent on turning this team around?

This game just made me sick in every way possible. We deserved the loss but the Gals didn't exactly score class act goals. Ronnie's goal was very nice and had potential of turning the game around, but we only had to wait a mere minute to spoil that one. This team has nothing, theres no hope, we have no flow, no passing ability whatsoever. Everyone played like sh!t, save Gibbs and Ronnie O, but even they had their moments. Ronnie is clearly frustrated with what is happening you can see it in his face and his game, and its screwing him up but at the same time helping him out. Eddie Johnson isn't a forward, he's a track star. Toni can't even get out of his own way. Kreis' starting days may be over. Talley isn't a play-maker. Maybe we need Salyer to sit a game out.

But hey! look on the bright side.....we didn't get screwed over majorly by the ref. Oh wait, the 3rd goal wasn't a foul in the first place? Oh well it was close...

And one more thing, if I ever see Stone or Wynalda in public, I'm going to deck them both and spit on them. Can you be more pro-Galaxy? Can you be more soccer stupid? They make Bush look like Eienstein. I hope their plane catches fire and burns them slowly. And I hope ESPN headquarters is hit by an asteriod, making me stay up until 2:30 am to watch this trash, while they were showing Baseball 2 Night and French Open highlights while the real game was on. Just kill yourselves.

To be fair to Salyer, he had his man, and Victorine made a run to the cross with no Burn defender within 20 yards of him. Salyer tried to adjust, but he never really had a chance of taking on two attackers.

Memo to myself: when game is on tape delay, go on beer run before kickoff. Beer cannot be sold in Oklahoma after 2:00 am.

No possession, no workrate, few offensive chances...

I'm just wondering at what point the coaching staff will realize that need a real playmaker in central midfield to create real chances on goal. I'm sorry, but after last year, I would've thought that someone somewhere would've decided that making the opposing team nervous would make for a nice change of pace.

We scored the fewest goals in the league last year, and so what are our big acquisions in the offseason?

    Cory Gibbs - defender
    Steve Jolley - defender
    Carey Talley - midfield/defender
    Simo Valakari - defensive midfielder
    Eric Quill - winger
    Scott Garlick - goalkeeper

We also gave up the most goals last season, so I can understand to a certain point, but c'mon. We end up with two allocations, and the best we can do is to sign a central defender and hold on to the other one until some undetermined time?

Incidentally, this game pretty showed me why the Burn office is feeling the need to sell their GA seats for cut rates now.

The Dallas soccer fan is a bit smarter than they've been given credit for and is telling the front office that the product is crap with his pocketbook. Seriously, after watching the last four games on the heels of watching this team last year, I feel like some kind of sucker for spending $198 for Flexipasses again this year.

At this rate, we'll have tickets available for Opening Day next year, right up to kickoff.

    Un f-in beleivable

I feel bad for Jolley we all know he is a hell of a defender and can be a real sob to play against. When I said I would love to see a 2 or 3 goal outburst this isnt what I had I mind.

Allow me to say this "The wheels are off"

But I still hold hope, at least Colorado lost last night so we are only 2pts back.

on Victorine's header for the 1st goal, wasn't Moreno fouling Salyer?...

...preventing Salyer from jumping? by sort of blanketing/bulldoggin' him to the ground?

(not that Salyer could have covered both Moreno and Victorine by himself, or that a dis-allowed goal there would have changed anything much about the result)

we sure seem to be going in circles about which guys are the guys

How long has it been since the Burn last won? Six weeks? Seven?

Until they actually get a striker, they can count on being the worst team in the league.

All that got them last year was Cory Gibbs, while other teams like NY and LA stockpiled strikers.

Dallas just doesn't have the personnel (they haven't been assigned by the league) to compete over the long haul of an MLS season.

I guess you can blame the players on the field, but until they find another Graziani-type finisher up top, the Burn will always be second-rate.

Maybe CC should start wearing suits to the games. It worked for Andrulis.

It seems to me that they are sticking with Johnson no matter what, hoping he will develop. He gets chances but doesn't finish well.

You guys could use Stern John. They said on MLS Wrap that he might come back to MLS.

Excellent question. All through preseason and the first four game this team worked hard and fought for each other. Now that looks to not be happeneing.

    What a shame.

I'll let everyone else moan and groan about our lack of offense, about how the blood is in the water and about how this is 2003 all over again. I may even agree with some of that, but I just wanted to say that I absolve our defense for this loss.

We were under seige for the entire first half. As somebody already pointed out about that first goal, Salyer had his man and Victorine was probably O'Brien's assignment. And goddamnit, I still want Steve Jolley out there even after 2 OGs. He played a solid game but just had the worst sort of luck. Gibbs was a little rusty, but I think it's no coincidence that our skid began when he went out. And it's hard for me to bring myself to say anything about Gbandi, but he even did OK.

The opposition just gains all kinds of opposition when they know that you have no attack. And with Talley in there control of the midfield was pretty much given up as well. The defense had the deck stacked against them.

The first goal was entirely Gbandi's fault. Pass the ball with some pace Sally.

Talley for Quill was the big change CC had up his sleeve?
Did I say this team had 3 holes? There is a fourth one.
