BURN TO TRAIN IN CHILE FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR

DALLAS - The Dallas Burn announced today that for the second consecutive year the team will travel to Chile for preseason training and games. The team is scheduled to depart for Chile on Wednesday, March 12 and return to Dallas on Wednesday, March 26. The Burn was originally scheduled to travel to South Africa for preseason training and games but organizational setbacks encountered by the promoter has delayed the trip until a possible trip at the conclusion of the MLS season.
"While we still look forward to traveling to South Africa on a possible post-season tour, we are delighted to return to Chile for preseason training," said Burn President and General Manager Andy Swift. "We benefited greatly last year from a well-organized and competitive camp in Santiago. Returning there this year will ensure that we get the necessary amount of competitive games and good training facilities that are vital to the preparation of the team for Opening Day on April 12."
Last year, the Burn went 5-1 in Chile, recording victories over Santiago Morning, Union Espanola, Colo Colo, SIFUT and Universidad de Chile. Their lone loss was a 2-1 setback to Palestino in their final match.

Rumor was the South African govt was funding that trip - in an ill-fated effort to help their WC bid.

Is the Chile trip funded by the Burn alone?

    Anyone know or care?

South Africa was funded by a promoter...

Chile is funded by the Burn.

i don't think the trip to Chile is that helpful. I don't mind everyone coming out with great stats, but i just dont think the burn will get better that way.

I don't mean to speak for goburn, but I think the idea is that if you are walking through all of most of your games, you aren't getting challenged enough. Some rumors are out there that the actual quality of the actual players these people put out on the field isn't that great, despite the fact there are some good clubs.

No idea what the reality of the situation is.

Oh, well, better than going to S. Africa. What's sad is they will still probably get the WC. None of the other countries are any option whatsoever.
