USSoccerUK reports that the Burn have completed a loan for South African int'l striker Toni Nhleko from Norwegian club Brann Bergen. According to a quoted Brann official, "By Dec. 1, Dallas have to decide whether they want to loan him further or buy him." http://www.planetfootball.com/article.asp?id=150267&cpid=218&title=Brann+striker+makes+Dallas+move
Dude that report is from May. here is the origional http://www.sportinglife.com/footbal...R_Nor-Brann_Bergen_Nhleko.html&TEAMHD=foreign As I reported at the time the Burn were hoping to bring him on trial. But I will check into it anyway.
You're probably right, but what caught my eye were the quotes attributed to a named Brann official. I know USSoccerUK tends to trade in rumors, but making up quotes could get you fired no matter who you write for.
Fair enough, but it doesn't look like it has any new info to me... But like I said I will look into it and see what I can find out.
Ok I just got some info.. it looks like there may be something to this one... If I can confirm it I will.
Here's a bio on Toni from a Brann website. Unfortunately it's in Norwegian, but it does seem to indicate he scored several goals for them in 2002 and played for the South African Olympic team in Sydney back in 2000. http://www.skbrann.org/klubben/spillerstall/spiller.php?spillerID=118
Here's a cute comic of Toni on the pitch; apparently he knocks over defenders like they're bowling pins.
Farewell Carl Bussey. Lets hope this new fellow helps. Didn't give away too much to get him on the team it seems? Will he be ready to go against Chicago June 18 - maybe?
Anyone needing defensive depth on the bench in MLS would be wise to take a look at Bussey... ... i really feel for the guy. Salyer shows up and (rightfully) bumps him to surplus. Good luck Carl, you are MLS calibre, screw Korea, with expansion looming your future is here in the states! -bs
googling him turns up very little.... apparently Toni is not his given first name... http://www.safagoal.net/players/index.asp?memid=229
Hmmm. Interesting that Bussey was cut and not Rosenband(less needed with another forward) or Shavar Thomas (presumably Bussey can play central defense if necessary). Shame we couldn't work out some sort of trade with the Smurfs to send Carl over there maybe along with a draft pick for Arturo Alvarez. Carl Bussey has got to be better than Waibel. Of course, then someone else would have to be cut....... Do the Burn still own his MLS rights?
Isn't Rosenband on the developmental squad? Meaning he couldn't make room for this guy. I wonder if anyone picks up Bussey.
I asked about him on another board with a fair number of Scandinavians and a Norwegian replied that he thought he has good potential but had a hard time settling in. I would imagine Dallas will be more like home for him.
100% correct, the cut to make room for him had to be a full roster player. As soon as Salyer had that good game Carl became expendable... And Salyer could not have been released for him either as he is also Developmental. And I am sure Burn would love to have Alvarez. But if you are gonna cut a guy, no one is gonna give you more than a 6th round pick. If you ask me I think something else is gonna happen... And I say that because I can count. Forwards... on Full roster 1. Kreis 2. Nhleko 3. Cerritos 4. Rhine Protected Roster (P-40 and Dev) 1. Johnson 2. Thompson (who I am told can start training this week or next) 3. Rosenband Now I will grant you Rosenband is a project and so is Thompson arguably... But that is still 5 legit forwards, and in MLS that is one too many.
So where does this leave EJ? Is he still rumored to be traded? Colorado was supposed to be wanting him I thought...
This move can't be considered a ringing endorsement of Eddie Johnson and his standing within the club. Potential is great but in the end all it really does is raise expectations. Time to put up or shut up, kid.
