From http://www.dallasburn.com/ "DALLAS - The Dallas Burn, in conjunction with AEG Events, will hold a press conference on Monday, March 3 at 3:00 p.m. at the Stadium Club at Texas Stadium to announce a major upcoming international friendly match. Monday's press conference will include all details of the upcoming match including participating teams, ticket prices and the date when tickets will go on sale..." Wow. This is odd. Any guesses?
What friendly are we going to get. I smell a Jerry Jones special here. After all his plastic surgery, maybe he has become somewhat enlighten about the prospect of soccer making him money.
If it is some European team, I'm more than likely going to look into it about going, but if it is one of those concofa cups, then chances I'm not going. Maybe Jerry will also announce he is moving gthe cowboys and letting the Burn have Texas Stadium.
That would not be a friendly. Remember.. AEG deals with Mexico's national team in the USA so there's a good chance that's who it is as one team.
i know barcelona had spoken of a US tour, but now they say theyre gonna play in the intertoto cup, which likely would eliminate them
I agree, but I was thinking that perhaps the Burn PR department had misspoke. Club America is scheduled to play their Champion's Cup home match in Dallas and I've yet to hear where the game will be played. If indeed the match is a friendly, maybe we'll be lucky and it'll involve the USMNT. I'm not crazy about Dallas ending up as the 3rd home to the Mexican NT after Mexico City and LA.
From Soccer America's MLS Confidential: "Club America has arranged to play its "home" game in the CONCACAF Champions' Cup series against FAS of El Salvador at the Cotton Bowl but that game may be moved to Phoenix because it falls too close to a Mexico game that could be played in Dallas. Or not." So it looks like Wolves' Mexico hunch may be correct.
Pretty funny. So - would they hold the rumored USA v Mexico friendly in early May that had been rumored to go to Houston at Texas Stadium - truck in some grass trays maybe??
Ive had this idea forever, but I don't think it will solve our finanical needs not to mention it won't sell out anytime soon.
You guys didn't want to get beaten by an A-league side again ? Seriously though, the Battery played Puebla FC last year and it turned into a hockey match. The ref lost control of the game early on and before the match was over, there were three red card, our coach ejected, yellow card galore and 42 fouls. It should have been a highlight in our season but it turn pretty ugly. Still a nine player Battery beat the ten player Puebla FC 2-1. On top of all that the inter American Soccer Organiszation set the price for admission at $20, when you can get a regualr season game for $6. It was an exciting match, but one I think the club would soon forget. If we play another International, it wont be against a Puelba FC. Good Luck on your and I hope you have a better experience than we did. Mikey
A soccer game at Texas stadium would be odd, but fit Jerry's plans for a monument to himself...he can market his giant Jerryland as a potential soccer venue when his toy is not playing. I cannot imagine that a soccer field in Texas stadium would meeting International dimensions. There's not enough room in the floor of the place that I remember.
I don't think so. My impression was that Texas Stadium only had a softer "rug over crowned concrete" surface than the newly FIFA-sanctioned "rug over flat sand-and-tire-rubber-base" surface sported at Southlake and other second generation artificial turf locations.
Yeah - but I would figure for what would be a realtively high profile US v Mexico friendly in Texas Stadium they would ship in grass a la Man U demands.Or maybe not. I think the field size in total is certainly big enough including the NFL sidelines - about the same size as Southlake. That's a lot of gridlines to paint over. The only thing is that there is about a 4 foot crown from center to sideline - which is considerable. If you stand on one side of the field and look across at someone on the other side - you can only see them from their waist up. Or maybe Man U is gonna take on the Burn in Big D.
Do you think ManU have time on their U.S. tour to make such an arrangement? The only way I see soccer playing at Texas stadium is they bring in grass trays. I don't think Texas Stadium's turf is suitiable for soccer IMHO. BTW how come SMU's Ownby Stadium wasn't considered for the friendly?
In their wisdom SMU's new Ford Stadium is too narrow for quality soccer. Probably 65-68 max. It also has very high sides (6-10 feet) so sightlines on the sidelines might be very poor. Of course there is the usual they don't serve alcohol, have much parking, want any non-rich people types in their neighborhood. I actually don't particularly like the look of it. It has a very cheap brick institutional schoolhouse look circa 1940-50's to it.
