No, when Sutter got hurt, MLS deliberately avoided signing a replacement for a month of the season, even though they knew Sutter was not coming back. Until we forced the issue and wrote directly to Suni and Dougie and told them that if Chad Deering was not signed because "he wanted too much money" we'd unleash the wrath of hell, since we know Metro never heard those words to that point. They jacked Deering around awhile, and then simulataneously announced that Sutter no longer played for MLS, and Deering was gonig to Dallas. No I don't think the Sutter replaced Alvarez, although it could be. I'll consult what media guides I have here. I thought Daniel Peinado was the replacement for Alvarez. Sutter was actually a "discovery" before the concept was invented. He was acquired because Hugo lasted only a year, as did Washington Rodriguez. At that point the rules were rubber. Do you know it took Dougie Logan a year and a half as commissioner before he ever went to a Burn game at the Cotton Bowl?
Actually, it happened one other time in 1996 to the Crew or Revolution, I believe. But we're the only team that has had it happen to us TWICE. And the only one that's had it happen since '96. Incidentally, the replacements for Leonel, Hugo, and Washington Rodriguez were Alain Sutter, Damian Alvarez, and Dante Washington, respectively. (The allocation that we got when Rodriguez was sold was traded to Columbus for Dante Washington. Meanwhile, Columbus used it to acquire Brad Friedel. I think it worked out well for both parties.)

Hi. This is my first post on this site. Got tired of the racial crap at the Burn forum so I thought I would try this out. How about, the only team to play in an inferior venue while at the same time significantly raising the price of admission and parking. This might also be one, although others might have the inside scoope. I always thought it was strange that after Diego Sonora ditched the Burn in the middle of a season, the league allowed him to return like a year later to play for Tampa Bay. Didn't he break his contract? Were we ever compensated?
Does anyone have any corrections for Accuracy on the statements in this thread? Is everything stated herein true, to the best of your knowledge? Please dispute or correct ASAP. This list is going to get cleaned up and be presented to "higher authorities" in 24 hours. -bs
I want a top European Defender. A real kit supplier such as adidas, Nike, or even Umbro. News on the sss in Frisco. Steve Morrow to remain as a coach. Be allowed to make it loud and clear so everyone knows Graber is an idiot. More than just a major player allocation from the adu shaft. adu to be treated like crap. A top European midfielder to fill in as the schemer Scipio talks about. Vinnie Jones to mentour Jordon Stone.
My only grievance The girls in the brat-eating contest didn't stand out in the rain long enough. Oh, and no more 400-pound dudes in the brat contest. I would have finished in the top three if it wasn't for him.
Addendum: Ability to predict, one year in advance, that Ramon Nunez will NOT be allowed to tell the League that "he will only play in Dallas with the Burn" but will instead be allocated to Chivas USA using a draft pick stolen from the Dallas Burn. I'm sick of always hearing "so and so had to do this, and it was what was best for the league." I want to hear "X, Y or Z suffered because of WHAT WAS BEST FOR THE BURN. -bs
Well Brush, I know that we disagree on so much. But, I think that a main gripe should be the "take it or leave it" marketing and team building approach that has been going on ever since HSG became involved. Just because you try to dress the team up as Man U., and add some guys with British accents to run things doesn't mean you will be successful in Dallas. Get us a real coach, a real GM, and a real owner. Go meet with some new investors and bring back our old traditions, even if these guys come from south of the border. They will have a better handle on the DFW market than guys east of the Atlantic Ocean. Above all, we need a real owner that will go to bat for us and use some political muscle when the league shafts us time and time again. The current turds that "own" this team don't care. The league doesn't care. They are going to have a good chuckle when you submit your list. That is a fact that pisses me off even when I know that you disagree with me on so much. I do know that you are a die hard fan. The only thing that the league and HSG will listen too is the loud sound of empty seats. The list of non-renewing season ticket holders got their attention about South Lake. Now they've thrown you a couple of trinkets, (Cotton Bowl) and they plan to take your cash and run.
Other than to satisfy your personal craving for establishing a Euro soccer colony in Frisco, would you post this kind of stuff? We are living in the Americas. The DFW soccer market as a whole rejects the Euro retread stuff. If you are interested in the survival of the franchise, then pray that someone begins to cater to the market.
hsg could've changed the direction of the burn by getting rid of jeffries. they could've built on the cotton bowl location, the hispanic market, and put latino seats into a sparsely populated cotton bowl by hiring a latino head coach. zarco and graziani, even chivas might have stayed and prospered even more. hsg could've spent important dollars on latino media to pull in more hispanic fans, and built upon that momentum leading to frisco. now the fan groups are very small or gone. the southlake mistake compounded these problems. and now, with the return to the cotton bowl, hsg has screwed up the parking issue once again. i won't be renewing my season tickets for the first time in years. too many bad decisions for me. soccer in america deserves better. maybe swift can have some success. it's too late to bring me and my friends back.
A wise choice. I agree 100%. The only thing that HSG and MLS will listen to is the fans excercising their God-given right to vote. And the type of voting that will ring loud and clear is an empty cavernous Cotton Bowl next year. As to the "what kind of fan are you" "your type will kill pro-soccer in DFW" responses, I ask, is it worth perpetuating this kind of cr@p, just to say that we have "mAJOR" League Soccer in Dallas? Either fix it right, or get out of the way so that the next group can have a go at bringing the fans what they want. Whether it be MLS, A-League, an ethnic league, or an extended pre-Liberators type of league with "home" foreign sides. Anyway, Fox Sports Espanol has more good soccer on it than I even have time to watch.
