Now that my blood alcohol content is at its normal 50%, perhpas it is time to look at what this means, rather than just celebrating. THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING. Perhpas it is too much to hope that Morrow pulls on a jersey again, but now the salary cap space, the allocation, and any discovery signings are posible can lead to blockbusters. Forign players who would not play on plastic might now come to Dallas. Toni added something to the team, but he was signed after the staff watched him on tape. He was the best palyer out there, but he was in a bad situation and looking to get out and go anywhere. Now palyers have a reason to come to Dallas. All of a sudeden, I am a lot more optimistic. Even so, every silver cloud has a dark lining. If the burn goes deep into the playoffs, while the Fair is going on, does this mean a few games in Dragon Stadium? Since nothing has been said about this, I am hoping not.
As a neutral fan since 95 (yes before the league even started) the burn have always been one of the top teams i root for, i was pissed during this season that i couldn't watch them on the shootout, i always had to pick other games cuz that field was horrible...this is great news...MLS 2004, the best season ever
Congratulations to you guys. Your team's current play aside, playing back in the Cotton Bowl in '04 is a pretty big deal from where you guys were sitting in February. Dragon stadium was, I think, a new low for MLS stadium situations. Watching those games on TV, it was just horrible. I felt bad for you guys, and Metro have a crap stadium deal of their own to bitch about.
Hey wait a minute! It's not all good! Bitching about Dragon Stadium was the one thing anyone could do on these boards without incurring the wrath of anyone else! It was the one thing that could bring us all together! Now we need something to fill the newly created void. Dragon Stadium also had the added bonus of making millions of A-League fans...uh, OK...thousands of A-League fans, feel much better about their teams! Even PSL and PDL fans probably got a boost! We've lost that too!
um, negative. First of all don't say the D word in front of me, and second off I don't see this being a problem considering we played at the Bowl during the fair in the past and other teams have had to work around the NFL now so no. always gotta find the negative side to everything eh? , it does almost sound too good to be true, but I think us as fans and the players who worked through hell deserve it. Heres to hoping we have guys like ROB, Davis, and Kreis still in the lineup next season.
Hot damn! I hope I have the chance to be the first Inferno member to buy super-fan Scott a beer at next year's season opener.
I was just thinking about next season (we do a lot of that in the DC Metro area right now), and the Stadium Whose Name Shall Not Be Spoken came to mind. Coincidence? Convergance? Synchronicity? Whatever... Congrats!!
I first heard the news on the ticket sports ticker this afternoon of all places. It caught me so off-guard that I wasn't sure if I heard what I heard. I then called Jonno and he confirmed that the Burn had put out a press release. What a great day! Everything is possible now, cap room, all kinds of draft picks, international spots available. Dallas actually can seriously talk to players into coming over to play now. One last dance at the Cotton Bowl! Let's send out the ole lady in style! Woo hoo! Esto si que esta' bueno!
There is a God! HALLELUIAH !!!!! Thank you! Thank You! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This has brighten my day. NO MORE CRAPPY HIGH SCHOOL FIELD TURF! EVER!
Wow. I am so happy for y'all. I do believe that a trip up to Dallas is now on the books for next year.
Congratulations on moving back to the Cotton Bowl. I'm gald you guys are moving out of that terrible stadium in Southlake. At least the management listened (at least according to the article they did) to how much you guys didn't like the stadium.
I will be the first to admit I had no sniff of this. But then nobody did. Everyone I talked to... front office, players, coaches, gm's, HSG, people that talked to HSG, people from other teams, people in media, agents, owners.... I mean everyone said they were 100% going back to Southlake. Believe me I am as happy as anyone to be wrong. I love the Cotton Bowl. I even like it better than Frisco, but I understand the economics.
I got a $1 that says this move back would not be happening if they had saved any money at all at Southlake. I would bet the attendence drop made the economics equal. So in the end the fans got the Cotton Bowl back by voting with their feet and not attending Southlake.
One way of looking at this, and it's not necessarily my opinion, is that, in a macroeconomic sense, Wagner thought they could operate the Burn like KC or Columbus; some of us squealed about the RPA and it's karmic implications in January, and were shouted down by other fellow zealots. But in the end, those who squealed early were proven correct: the Dallas Market is more sophisticated than KC or Columbus, and you can't half-a$$ a Major League Product in a metro area with the size and diversity of North Texas. Anyone who gives Elliott the credit for this reversal of fortune is going soft on Wagner and Lamar for the decision in the first place, as well as short- changing Swift who is now left holding the bag. But at least they made the right move, even if they had to make the wrong move first to make it possible to make the right move. After 9 hours to digest the news, i feel like we should be thankful, and give praise to our Burn Elders and Operators, but let's not go overboard. This was a reversal of an incredibly stupid decision in the first place, and is really only a retrace to square one, except we probably lost 2 years of value from the work done by the Hicks/Swift administrations. NOW however it is possible to build BIG momentum for Frisco. I was advocating holding on the YS allocation and waiting for Frisco. Not now. Bring on Ray Parlour. =bs
Good news for MLS, and great news for Burn fans. It didn't help the image of the league when Burn games were on TV. That place looked so bush league. So did Naperville, but that's behind us now as well.
We are going home. As Dorothy says, "There is no place like home." Even with all the faults of the Cotton Bowl, the place is 100 times better than Southlake. Did Southlake really happen or was it just a bad dream? Someone asked earlier when did the Burn hit rock bottom. I don't know, but there is only one place we can go. I am confident ROB will be staying and this will be his team.
