its not revisionist history, LOL. This was what I saw from the media and commentators IN 2014 not recent time. and it was from numerous countries in numerous different languages, nobody was high on Germany and our only tag was always "best team". reality Germany from 2006-2016=was seen by media and commentators as "German Efficient Oil Machine that makes a good team with 0 stars."
If Kroos and Mueller and Neuer and Schweini and Ozil and Hummels weren't stars who exactly were stars in '14? I think you've set the star bar a bit too high - these guys were literally all top 5 for their position in the world at the time ...
again, nothing I've said about Germany 2014 is my opinion or POV, its opinion of commentators and media from around world. also IGNORE our POV, meaning don't look at X or Y is our Star Player means everyone thinks that's case. Our POV=bias and at same time, every team in world can claim that players A, B, C are the stars of their teams but put them next to players from other countries and they wouldn't be considered stars. they all claimed that closest thing to a "star" Germany had at the time was Ozil but with how they talked about him he wasn't seen as a star but not far off. from my POV, our ONLY star was Mustafi. your conflating, people seeing them become stars due to WC14 with them being so during or prior to the tourney. They weren't seen as anything of the sort prior or during. Kroos made his name with WC14 and had that Real transfer post WC14. He became a star with his Real Madrid time. Muller was shat on for years by non-Germany fans as nothing special. Neuer made himself a star with his sweeper keeper that got him famous from WC14. Basti seen as a star by whom outside Germany? And by 2014 WC him and Lahm were basically the aging players along with Klose that added to experience and players who emerged during Dark Times 1.0 too. remember that media You play in 1BL=not a star, you play EPL+La Liga=star. Sure these players were highly rated but stars? also your really think that anybody ever sees any German players as stars??? During my entire time following NT, barely any German players gets called that. Even during our peak times, its rarely given to many players like 1-2 tops. Like Ozil+Kroos+Neuer were the ones who had that status more then the rest after WC14. point is the idea that WC14 is full of stars or world class players isn't really accurate. It was mostly the XI but not everyone in XI either. no team has 11/11 world class-Elite players is the point. Every team will have to make due with good players. The ceiling for 99% of players is good player and nothing else. Because some here only care about world class-Elite or bust acting like its possible to mass produce such players when it isn't. The amount of world class players around world is very small number too.
I mean i lived in germany then and those guys were regarded as stars by any standard before that world cup and there was big expectation. Bayern had done the treble in 13 after missing in 12. Ozil was setting assist records for Europe since 2010. who exactly was a star in your view? I get there were some high quality supporting cast like Khedira and Boateng. As for Kroos i agree he was Germany’s top midfielder at the tournament but he’d already been beating up on top european sides before then. It’s why Man U and Madrid were both trying to sign him. i feel the current German side are a lot more like the 2010 side. some very good young stars breaking out in Wirtz and Musiala but also some other guys who are not at that level (yet) plus a strange assortment of old guys who have done a job.
Sorry for the late reply. I was busy. I don't agree at all. From what I remember, their performances in the group stage attracted a lot of neutral fans. They were playing an enjoyable free-flowing football. They beat Turkey and Switzlerland 3-0. They were getting a lot of hype from those games. They tried to play on the front foot for most of the tournament except against Spain in the semi-final understandably. They didn't play catenaccio and rely only on their defensive players. They scored some beautiful goals - Locatelli vs Switzerland, Insigne vs Belgium, Chiesa vs Spain, Barella vs Belgium. Some of the other goals weren't too shabby either. I don't know how you could say they were average. Their strong performances for their clubs show that actually Italy shouldn't have been underestimated and that their success wasn't based on luck. Around that period, they also went on a world-record 37-game unbeaten run, which surpassed the mark previously held by Brazil and Spain. Jorginho helped Chelsea defeat Real Madrid and Man City on their way to the CL title. Plus, he finished 3rd in the Ballon D'or that year. He was tactically and technically excellent. He could play line-breaking passes and read the game very well. Barella is also a fantastic player. He has a great engine and can attack and defend and is technically gifted. Verratti needs no introduction. Italy eliminated the #1-ranked Belgium, Spain and then England at Wembly. When they played vs England in the final, they dominated possession in the 2nd half and in extra time. England couldn't get out of their own half. It's a sign that Italy had quality midfielders, not just defenders. Foreign commentators and media hate Germany and always underestimate the Bundesliga. It doesn't matter what haters say. They were not objective in their analysis. Those players were stars in Germany and the expectations were high after the strong performances in the previous World Cup. Bayern reached 3 Champions League finals between 2010 and 2013. So those Bayern players were obviously elite no matter what foreigners said. True. Our starting XI was very high quality and we were lucky with injuries. We lacked depth but our best 14 players were strong.
Stuttgart lost 5:1 to some random club Last week Leverkusen lost 4:0 to Liverpool Bayern and Dortmund both had lost by a big margin to Barca and Real Overall things are not looking so great in champions league for Bundesliga teams
It's a terrible for our reputation but it's not too surprising given that Stuttgart lost their best defenders Hiroki Ito and Anton in the summer. Plus, Zagadou was injured. Undav was missing up front. Red Star Belgrade is not really a random club. They won the Champions League in 1991 and they're the biggest club in Serbia. Still, Stuttgart shouldn't be losing 5-1 to them. Also, one of their loaned players(Silas) scored against them(the important equaliser). It happens often in football. Liverpool seem to be the best club in Europe right now. Leverkusen have issues defensively this season so not a surprising result. Obviously they should be aiming to lose less embarrassingly though. Bayern played pretty well in the first half. Bayern were a bit unlucky to lose by such a big margin. It was a freak result. Barca were there for the taking. Dortmund were excellent in the first half too. Then they switched to a back 3 and everything fell apart. Real Madrid increased the intensity big time and were magnificent. Dortmund are not good right now. It is what it is. . WIth the likes of Man City and Real Madrid struggling this season, this is a big chance for Bayern to win the CL. Kompany has been far from convincing against the top teams though. We can't expect too much from the other 3 teams.
Another bad result in Europe. Hoffenheim got smashed by Braga 0-3. At least Arrey-Mbi plays for them. Moerstadt got a bit of playing time towards the end. Tohumcu too. Bischoff played 64 minutes. Hoffenheim are 25th after 5 matches. On the bright side, Frankfurt won away vs Midtiylland. They could go far in the competition. They will bring us a lot of coefficient points.

crazy in 2BL 1st place to 8th place is only 3 pts seperation, LOL. At this point anyone from 1-11 could get promoted.
