Taking off your main source of counter attacking threat... WHY? Correctly takes of Bjelde, but thinks... hmmm, let me remove one of my most potent attacking threats at the same time lol Bussy will move centally now, so i imagine Lerch is trying to be tactical, which could mean anything can/will happen now..
Wolfsburg are playing 4-5-2... no more football, just lots of long random balls forward... Lerch just let Juve have 25 mins to win this match lol.
Yeah... 20 mins of defending for their lives, hoping to get lucky on the break. WOW. Lerch faced the wall of mighty Essen on the weekend, and thought he'd witnessed the blueprint for his own success in the UWCL....
German women's football is in the absolute trenches... wow... This standard of coaching is diabolical lol.
Lerch, Stroot, Lerch... you known Kellermann is already on the phone to see if Stroot wants to return... How many defenders do Wolfsburg have on the field now...? There's no ability for Wolfsburg to counter now. Juve will need to make an error for Wolfsburg to move beyond the halfway line.
Zicai's first UWCL goal, after her one and only attempt as a sub, see's Wolfsburg go through... Well done Lyon, you recive another break from the next round, to become the first confirmed UWCL semi finalists..
Kielland Wolfsburg's best player... and she wouldn't have started if Popp healthy... Minge might become an elite level ever present CM/CB when she's 30, but right now she remains a work in progress, years away from being what these coaches feel she is. This the first time since October last year Wolfsburg have been able to keep an opponent from scoring... that same month they'd defeat Essen 0-8, and PSG 4-0... The decline in Wolfsburg's general play over the course of the season yet again on full display. And I can only think this is the players fully understanding the limited nature of Lerch.. A new break away league can't come soon enough for German women's football. But some serious questions need to asked of the standard of coaching at a club with Wolfsburg's history in the women's game. Kromp, and Carlson, in general two of the best coaches in the league, both also happen to be females who would genuinely benefit most from an opportunity to coach UWCL level clubs...
Kielland should start ALWAYS start Wolfsburg's games... if Lattwein healthy, these two players forming the best CM dou this club can select right now. And when Popp healthy, it shouldn't prevent Peddamors remaining a starter in her AM role. Wolfsburg's mid-field being better balalanced, the main reason why they didn't completely fold Vs Juve during the 2nd half. Endemann also showcasing her individual ability to play on any stage, any level, and remain highly effective within any role across the front line of the attack. It makes you wonder why it's taken so long for her to recieve regular minutes in a team clearly designed around players with her attributes... Finding a way win typically a quality every team wants to have, and Wolfsburg somehow able to regain this element of personality to find results they don't really deserve lol. But their next 3 games being Bayern, Frankfurt, Leverkusen, could be about to shine a negative light directly on Lerch, and Kellermann, way before the eventual beat down coming their way Vs Lyon lol.
Oh yeah... Bussy remains a selfless player, who also deserves some praise. Beerensteyn running at goal, would NEVER pass to an open Zicai to take a shot. Looks simple, but these qualities have seen her succeed in Wolfsburg team lacking true mid-field quality aka players capable of consistency finding her and the forwards with accurate passes.
I'm convinced Popp is going to join BVB at the end of the season... If the new league starts with BVB as one of it's first members, I also predict more wnt talent beyond Popp joining them too. But regardless of their league status, it's feeling like a matter of time before Popp announces her intentions to leave Wolfsburg for her childhood club. Lots of talented players with contracts still undecided right now, Wolfsburg featuring a host of international quality names who could all leave for free in a few months. For sure Popp's decision could finally mark the end of an old era, or a beginning of a new era for one of Europe's former powers...
HSV vs Werder Bremen takes place on Saturday, which means the biggest attendance of the season should be set once again from two clubs with no title ambitions... And seeing how well HSV has been playing recently, alongside Bremen legitimately chasing a top 3 finish, this should be the most competitive game seen so far between these two rivals. HSV only two points ahead of relegation zone Essen, Werder now 6th place but just 3 points behind 3rd place Leverkusen. Alot rides on this game for both clubs.
Batfink’s beloved Lotta gives up an PK, to make it 1-1 at 60th minute of the Hamburg/Bremen derby match
I can see where Lotta Werde has a ton of potential with some excellent 1v1 attacking skills. But she would pretty much play the same left side winger that Klara Buhl and right now it would be an big mistake to rush too fast up as the NT coaches will force her to start playing new positions & mess her up like they’ve done to Brand.
Union Berlin - Köln 2:1(1:0) D.Orschmann(31), Campbell(78) - Bremer(67) Nürnberg - Jena 5:1(4:0) Fröhlich(11p), Guttenberger(30), Papai(33), Lein(45+1), Polaskova(89) - Bonsu(90+3) Hamburger SV - Bremen 1:1(1:0) Hillebrand(18p) - Mühlhaus(63p)
I predicted this latest match between HSV Vs Werder Bremen would end up the most competitive game between these two rivals... but also forgot how much officiating could impact everything... And of course the referee would end up deciding how this match would be played, as neither side could entertain the positive idea of playing football for the 2nd half... Both teams should have each had a PK awarded in the first half, potentially seeing Werder walking away with a important victory if Mühlhaus had the opportunity to take more than one penalty for her team... But I still groaned seeing Mühlhaus have another damn PK goal, in a season she continues to remain at the very top of the league for players total shots on goal... HSV will be definitely be the happier of the two teams, with this result having a more damaging effect towards Werder's 3rd place hopes than HSV's fight from relegation. But looking at individual players, I found it frustrating watching Wrede still pretending to be a left winger; pure talent alone allowing her to cause a constantly high level of concern with excellent dribbling qualities. Bartz struggling overall in a CM role for HSV, I'm still confused on the reasoning behind Lotta Wrede's superior CM attributes not being allowed to move back to a role she'd shine brightest during the early season... Linberg, and Doucoure, both really solid additions to HSV's team. Their pressence has brought some level maturity to a side that would play well and lose far too often. Alber, Desic, Mühlhaus, all underwhelming again for Werder... Kromp will also need to change something to see these 3 attackers produce more goals form open play. Werder's attack overall during the 2nd half of the season, making me also wonder why they chose to allow Papai to leave; Papa apparently thriving at Nürnberg. Without the goal threat (lowest in the top 6)... I have a very difficult time believing Werder will end in 3rd place this season...
Cerci scores her first PK of the season, giving Hoffenheim an early lead over Leverkusen. 2 mins, 0-1 Hoffenheim.
64' CITY SUBS OFF: Greenwood, Blindkilde Brown, Fowler, Fujino ON: Knaak, Lohmann, Bunny, Coombs HOW'S IT STAYED OUT?! The ball breaks to Lohmann who looks certain to score, her effort is blocked though. Bunny then pokes towards the net from close range and it's turned wide for a corner! Great defending for the Blades. 90' YELLOW Guyatt goes into the book for a foul on Lohmann.
Halftime 1-0 WOB, can’t say this is tht most exciting game I’ve ever watched; WOB so far has taken a total of one shot ….-and scored with it
