Intriguing to see him as a central pivot with Nick and Deniz. We're building triangles wherever we can find them. Pythagoras would be proud. Which, I suck at math, so I think it's Pythagoras, but you get the joke.
Skrzybski on the counter against the run of play. That's Kiel's thing. And that's our vulnerability today. This is going to be tricky. Can't drop points here. We need this one.
Need both Undav and Demirovic to regain their early season goal-scoring forms. Have to beat clubs like Holstein even away.
Demirovic for Deniz and Bruun Larsen for Führich. And then right off the kick Skrzybski hooks one in over Alexander's head. What in the hell ...
Well, we salvaged a point. But we needed more from this one. We have one heck of a road in front of us now.
We really needed the points from this one. The table is so tight. But given our injury profile, I'm not shattered by it. We at least are keeping our chin above the surface. Results: suboptimal. Effort: commendable. But damn, we need to start winning some matches.
Week 25: 10-7-8 37 points Dropped another 2 points in a 2-2 away draw in Kiel. Goals from Leweling (Millot assist) and Demirovic (Woltemade). Bad news is we can forget about CL qualification; good news is we should be good to avoid relegation. Goals - Assists Demirovic 9 - 1 Woltemade 8 - 2 Undav 7 - 1 Millot 4 - 3 Stiller 1 - 6 Mittelstadt 1 - 5 Rieder 1 - 3 Toure 2 - 1 Leweling 2 - 1 Karazor 1 - 2 Fuhrich 1 - 2 Vagnoman 1 - 2 Chabot 1 - 1 Larsen 1 - 0 Roualt 1 - 0 Diehl 1 - 0 Stergiou 0 - 1 Nübel 0 - 1 Opp own goal 2 Goals scored: 44 Goals conceded: 39 Clean sheets: 4
39 goals conceded in 25 matches. That is NOT good enough for moving into next season's CL qualifications so maybe accept that fact. VfB made a HUGE mistake selling both Anton and Ito last summer. And look, Bochum beating Bayern IN Munich. (Unless BM get a 90+10' penalty kick.)
We miss those guys. But in all fairness, had it not been for all the injuries at center back, I think we would have been okay, although by no means as good as last year. And it's better to sell than let someone walk on a free, so there probably wasn't anything to do about Anton and Ito long-term. They were in the position to cash in whether we liked it or not. What I've found frustrating are the sudden lapses. Stiller was slow to react on the Skrzybski's second goal today, and that was the difference in the match. Stuff like that has been happening all campaign. We'll be good, good, good, and then short-circuit for a moment and just like that, we've dropped points. It must be driving Sebastian nuts.
Without Undaz, I think that puts us in a hole. I don't think Demirovic is all that, but I would be very glad to eat a heapin' helpin' of crow if he proves me wrong!
He's not dynamic like Guirassy, but he's a tough kid, and he can score in the right circumstances. I'm curious to see how it works out with Nick as a dance partner.
Demirovic is such a battler. He won't hesitate to clean you right out if he thinks he can get away with it. But he's starting to push his luck here.
